This one has been around for a while, just received it again this morning:

It was sent from an iPhone, phone number ‭+44 7909 214461‬. It's nice to know that somebody with a United Kingdom phone number is concerned about Florida toll violators!

I've been getting a lot of those from non-US phone numbers. Several different versions, all claiming loss of drivers license and/or hefty fines.

I got one of those recently.
Haven't hit a Sunpass toll in probably a decade, so that was an immediate flag.

It's one going around a lot lately.

The giveaway is that it's a text demanding payment. These state DOT's would never do that just like the IRS wouldn't demand anything via text.

Just delete and move on.

Unfortunately these scumbags like to target older more trusting people like my 80 year old parents who I will get a worried call or message from asking what they should do about it.

I’ve been getting a lot of these texts. I live about 300 miles from the nearest toll road and don’t have a toll pass. Made it easy to determine it’s a scam.Wink

The first one like this that MRS SS1 got, she was sure it was a just a government mistake. She's so careful to pay any toll, any tax or any bill.

Took us about a minute to be sure it was a scam and now she gets at least one a week. We just block the number so no more text messages from that particular jerk, but there's always another.

No one from the UK has tried to scam us, though, just good old Florida folk.

I got two of those recently, just a few days apart. Since I've never used a toll road in my life, it was obviously a scam, so I just deleted it and moved on. I couldn't help but think "What will they come up with next?" Guess I'll find out in a week or so when the next scam comes up...

I got a letter recently from the NY City Metropolitan Transit Authority.
My letter/bill had a photo of "my" car. It was a mid sized SUV, white/light color.
The camera view is the front of the SUV. It's a US border patrol camera at a downstate
location, where formerly there was a toll booth, formerly actually staffed with people who
collected money from motorists.
So what's the problem here?
The license plate number on the bill is for my 2023 Yamaha sport bike. Blue in color.
The Yamaha has not been outside my storage building since early November, 2024.
I actually walked outside in a foot of snow to verify the motorcycle and the license plate
actually still lived inside the building.

Those of you reading this that know about motorcycles, they have only one license plate.
And they are on the rear of the motorcycle.

I called the NYC MTA and reached a supervisor. We had a nice chat.
Haven't heard anything yet.

I also found a website, the NYC MTA toll payers advocate. They give you a web form that
you fill out, and the ability to upload photos & documentation.
I sent them several photos, the motorcycle in the building, a close-up of the rear mounted
license plate, and a .pdf scan of the registration document which has the plate number on
it, and a photo of the snow outside the building, which ranged between 12" and 18" depth.

The toll bill was $3 and change. Sometimes you just have to put your foot up peoples asses
and tell them NO, you are NOT paying the toll bill!

I got one of those for the toll for the Narrows Bridge. Thing is, I've never driven my vehicle over the Narrows, and why the WSDOT had a Quebec number was also quite vexing.

I got one of those last week.
Deleted.

My spam filter catches almost all of these, which is nice.
I then do a mass delete.

One thing is that I hardly ever give out my mobile number to commercial companies.
Less opportunities to get spammed.
I still have a land line which helps, I know most may not have this option.
Luckily, my texts are relatively free of these.

Fought and got dismissed a parking ticket issued by East Lansing Michigan once.

Three problems here, first one was this was four years after I registered my vehicle in New Mexico, as part of that I had to surrender my Michigan plates to them, state requirement. Second, plate expired in 1980, this was 1983. Third, I drove a Chevrolet, this was a Honda.

That information together with a letter from my employer and one from the fire department I volunteered with were mailed to East Lansing. Never heard anymore from that.

Yeah, tired of these texts. I block one, another number appears.
