Three problems here, first one was this was four years after I registered my vehicle in New Mexico, as part of that I had to surrender my Michigan plates to them, state requirement.

NY suspended my drivers license and threatened to send the sheriff to confiscate my NY plates because I'd cancelled my NY insurance. This was after I'd surrendered my NY DL and license plates to NM. That was back in 1987. I sent them copies of my new license and car registration, but they sent the same demand again. I just tossed the second letter.

Ten years later NY uploaded their information to the national driver registry. It caused me a fair amount of grief to get that all cleared up.

Mad Mad Mad Mad
That woulda pissed me off SOOO bad!!! I swear, the more I learn about NY, both the city and state, the more I feel bad for my nephew who lives there! He's only there because of his job and being a Chinook pilot for the NY National Guard...

What an absolute POS state to have to live in!

This is at the top of the Virginia EZPass website:

Active Smishing Scam

We are currently experiencing HIGH call volume due to fraudulent TXT/SMS message inquiries. If you receive a TXT/SMS message that is not from (844) 548-0707 or (844) 718-2368, it is not from E-ZPass Virginia nor the Virginia Toll Payment Processing Center and should not be responded to. Prior to contacting customer service, we suggest logging into your account to verify your account balance and transaction activity.

Recipients of the TXT/SMS messages include non-E-ZPass patrons. The message(s) you have received are not the result of an E-ZPass Virginia data breach and your E-ZPass account information is safe.

You can report smishing messages to your cell carrier by following this FCC guidance. This service is provided by most cell carriers.

Hold down the spam TXT/SMS message with your finger
Select the “Forward” option
Enter 7726 as the recipient and press “Send”

Additionally, to report the message to the FBI, visit the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (ic3.gov) and select ‘File a Complaint’ to do so. When completing the complaint, include the phone number where the smishing text originated, and the website link listed within the text.

I’ve gotten at least five of these text messages with an attached pdf of the violation. Assholes.

The wife and I both got one of these texts this week. The phone number they were both sent from had the country code from the Philippines. Apparently, it's a worldwide phenomenon.

Yep, I got a "reminder" yesterday afternoon about my unpaid fine, and offering "assistance" in getting my fine paid so that I didn't lose my vehicle! I think it's totally awesome that somebody in the Phillipines cares so much about me and my car that they would send this reminder to me halfway around the world! Must be some totally awesome folks there... Wink
