I spray my ankles with Deep Woods OFF and also my pant legs . That usually keeps most of them at bay .

I use the old wives remedy. Fels-Naptha Soap.
You lather it up will and let it dry on the skin. The worst case I had was hunting one winter, both legs got it bad.

+1 on Off Deep Woods, I use the Dry version instead of the wet. Keeps those little buggers off. And if I have to get into my truck it won't rub off as easily.

That Deep Woods OFF shows it's only 25% Deet. Thats not much. I have a can of Repel Sportsman Max that has 40% Deet and I don't even think that it works all that well.

I think I'm just gonna keep out of the woods during summer.

No matter how bad the pest threat is, avoid this very nasty stuff, 98% DEET

Local Chigger prevention instruction according to a local elder:

Go to the highest elevation on your property along with a map, preferably an overhead arial map such as available from Google or other services. Slowly turn 360 degrees noting the farthest distance you can see while circling this visual boundary on the map.

This should result in a rough circle on the map.

Study the boundary drawn and note the area encompassed within the rough circle.

Using the map as a reference, burn everything within the circle to the ground.

Chigger bites are the worst because they itch for three or four days. They don't hurt when they bite, but the irritation that develops is unpleasant and long lasting. Fire ants are kind of the same, but get better faster.

Try Tea Tree oil which kills the toxin and pain.

I have fleas bad at one place probably due to the foxes. You have to leave your clothes in the garage and take a shower.

Similar here, I'd never experienced them until we moved to MO. First summer here I walked through some tall grass.... checked for ticks, nothing so I was good.
