"Mental health checks"

Slippery slope, that. And nobody who is sane today will ever go nuts in the future.

I own guns, which proves I'm pro-2A.
I have black friends, which proves I'm not racist.
I once voted for a Republican candidate, which proves I'm a "moderate, reasonable conservative" regardless of twelve other leftists I've voted for before or since.
I've watched Modern Family, which proves I'm all tolerant and and accepting and shit.

Please. Just stop.

Tough crowd. If the guy says that he's open to listening, why not give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he's being truthful. He's a member of this forum and deserves a bit of respect. Sigmonkey had the right idea on page two.

How about we put away the pitchforks and provide some information instead. If he still comes to the same conclusion I'll let you borrow my matches to burn him at the stake.

Are you reading the same thread as everyone else? The guy's behavior is that of a troll. He posts some provocative question or statement, then disappears. He says he has his reasons. I don't see it. Looks like trolling to me, and I don't see one single substantive comment from him that suggests any sort of solutions for these things he sees as so wrong, such as individual ownership of firearms in this country.
Intentional or not, he seems to have no answers, just a provocative questions that piss off members. Intentional or not, his behavior is precisely that of a troll.

If you're going to defend someone, you should make sure there's something to defend.

Hey Parabellum,
I just posted some things I believe should happen. Just because people don’t always agree on the same things does not mean the6 are bad, a troll, etc.

He's trying his best to make it as hard as possible to defend.

Kevin, did you get a chance to run one of the calculators and find out if you are either a big corporation or wealthy? My guess is you will actually directly benefit (lower taxes) even if not, you will indirectly benefit (more jobs, more factories, more investment in US).

It is very troll like to just say something should be a certain way (which you didn't even specify) then offer no reasoning, logic, or information to back it other than "you believe it should happen".

Really? What? Where? Show me these "things" you posted, because all I've seen from you are provocations.

You think we should "do something" about guns. You don't like or trust the POTUS, If you're not here to troll us, they why are you here? You think we have to "do something" about guns, and you don't like the one man who saved your ass. You heard me- I said saved your ass. If you want to seem clueless, misguided and ungrateful, you're doing a great job.

So, show me these "things" you've posted.

Well? Show me the substantive, thoughtful, germane remarks and observations you've made.

You come onto a gun forum that's nothing but gun owners, then you start yammering- hollowly and pointlessly- about having to "do something" about guns.
You come into the conservative bastion of this forum, the administration of which have CLEARLY AND REPEATEDLY stated their support for Trump, and then start a thread complaining about Donald Trump's photo "on every page".

If you're not trolling us, not looking for a reaction, then what you're saying is that you're clueless. If you're not trolling us, then you are saying that you just don't have a clue as to why anyone around here would take exception to your remarks. It's one or the other.

Hey, I am not your average social worker! I am also a Republican but not a fan of the man.

That you dislike our president is pretty clear.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but AIR, the new tax bill/law helps a whole lot (millions) of tax payers.

We are retired, have been for quite some time, and according to my tax advisor (aka Mrs. Elk) we will see 600-700 dollars in reduced taxes.

Seems to me, it would be nice that people who wish to criticize a person, or event, should first know something about it.

You might not be aware of the amount of firearm laws there are already in the United States. You have multiple jurisdictions with multiple laws. Federal, State, County, City. In fact, when I drive to the gun range 20 min away, I must meet 7 jurisdictions laws. I can assure you that I have no idea how many laws that is in total although I have counted 4 or 5 new local ones via local news stories added to the already existing high count. Yet our many gun laws, while plentiful, still leave the citizen the ability to own firearms.

So, if you are suggesting we take the Mexico approach, which is to effect radically strict laws on gun ownership that effectively ban them for host citizens/non-criminals, then you should also know that mexico's murder rate by gun hit a record this year in 2017, even before the year ended they had the most murders ever in any previously recorded full year. Turns out, and this will surprise you it seems, but criminals don't follow the law. Honest people do, so the honest people are disarmed and the criminals run wild in Mexico now. Over time, they have added more and more laws, and the murder rate has gone up because of it. Their murder rate they have achieved by all but restricting guns to police, military or rich folks, is now over 18 murders per 100,000 citizens.

In the US, with the gun laws you want to discuss doing "something" about: 5 in 100,000. Most of those are inner city caused by criminals who would violate any new laws you pass just like the current laws they already ignore. (Google inner city black murders in Chicago, or pick any big city, St Louis, Baltimore, New Orleans etc). If you want to lower the murder rate in the US, you'll quickly see that "more gun laws" are rarely seriously discussed. Long-term solutions include better schools, increased job opportunities more two-parent households and stop the current politically correct attempt to race pander.

If you need tighter gun laws, I'd suggest simply moving to Mexico where you have shitloads of them. I'm sure you'll be happy as a clam. Read up on it, here's a story from Yahoo dated 3 days back. https://web.archive.org/web/20...ident-012725573.html

Meantime, until we wind up with a sad sack shit of a President (which is what the Yahoo story is discussing re: Mexico President) that will restrict all of our rights regarding firearms, please spend a moment being thankful for what we all have, for now.

Did the gubbermint not express desires (under obummer) to prohibit firearms to a really large number of veterans? In the 1000s merely because they were veterans and might have some psychotic event later? Or something like that?

This is the typical Liberal Rant that gets my blood boiling.
First, when referring to this bill > it is a LIE.
Second, what is wrong with EVERYBODY paying less taxes?
Third, what really is "wealthy", and what is a "Big" corporation?
Lastly, the demonization is really the liberal/socialistic message that is designed to denigrate the "American Dream" (the one where everyone prospers through hard work and not the one where illegal aliens come to cash in".

That's the exact point I was trying to make. "Mental health checks" sound great to some people, but provide an easy way to ratchet up restrictions on gun ownership. There are folks that think a desire to own a firearm is itself evidence of mental illness.

COMBATVET reminds me of some of the guys that I had working for me. As an example:

Him: Johnny, there's a light bulb burnt out in our locker room

Me: Whatta want me to do, change the bulb? YOU know where the bulbs are, you know where the ladder is, go fix it. If you are smart enough to identify the problem, you are smart enough to fix it or identify and recommend a solution. Now get the phuck out of my office and let me know when the light bulb has been replaced. Lazy phuck.

If you're goin' through hell, keep on going.
Don't slow down. If you're scared don't show it.
You might get out before the devil even knows you're there.
