A question to pose would be when my child becomes so hypoglycemic that his glucose Ml/dl is in the teens and is intubated and requires an ICU admission or god forbid has lasting neuro deficits who should I name as defendants for not prescribing a device that reasonably could’ve prevented the issue. Hypoglycemia if not properly treated or detected has dire and serious consequences. When I worked EMS witnessed it first hand even in pediatric patients.

It may be about licensing and how a CGM is registered with the FDA. If hypoglycemia was not on the listing, well, then that’s the issue. It’s like when a pill has side effects that help another issue. It can’t be prescribed unless it is relisted/submitted for that ailment and must go through all the testing again. _____________________________ Pledge allegiance or pack your bag! Thank you Very little |
Which is all the more reason to contact the manufacturer and find out for sure... it may not be certified for the use you want. Seems though, if you're using a finger prick to check sugar, logically you'd think this would help. Contact Info Link

We have been in contact with them directly which is how we got some in the 1st place. We also were able to get ahold of a Dexcom I think but we preferred the Libre. Unfortunately neither were able to provide a way to get a consistent or further supply. Though we were contacted today and we may have a temporary supply as we continue to work towards something solid. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. So we were contacted yesterday about a temporary supply so that is a good thing. Well today we got a call from the out of state endo clinic asking if we would be interested in trying a continuous glucose monitor? We just said yes of course. Still very confused why when we specifically asked for it a couple months back when we had him admitted to do the 24 hour fast we were told they would not be able to do it. Ohh we’ll take what you can get. Sounds like no insurance coverage but I think they are like $65 a pod so we can deal with $130 a month. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. The success of a solution usually depends upon your point of view |
Glad to hear you are getting this resolved the way you want it. I get my CGM through a Wal-Mart pharmacy instead of my regular pharmacy. Since I also pay out of pocket I called around to find out who had the best price. The Wal-Mart pharmacy went on-line and found a discount code and applied it to my prescription. This has me paying around $68 for 2 monitors. When I get my new prescription written each year they have found a new code and applied it again. Glad to hear that! Hopefully it helps you get everything squared away so that eventually he can get off of it altogether, but in the meantime I think it will really help. And yeah, what SpinZone said about the discount code....look into that. Even after insurance it has helped me out quite a bit. My CVS pharmacy set it all up for me, but I had to put them in touch with the abbott people.
