“He who writes carelessly confesses thereby at the very outset that he does not attach much importance to his own thoughts.”
— Arthur Schopenhauer

Most of what I post here I first draft separately. Although I pay no attention to Microsoft Word’s suggestions about grammar and definitely do not rely on any other form of AI, it helps ensure I don’t misspell anything, and it’s easier to read in a large format. I’m not perfect, of course, and still make mistakes, but they’re not because I don’t care. On a forum like this it’s inevitable that anyone who is active will annoy and lose the respect of some people. If I must do that, I prefer that it’s because of my opinions, not because I’m careless in how I express them.

I screw it up almost every time. I believe it’s important to at least try to be correct with spelling and grammar just to keep the standards up.
There is/was a frequent poster on another forum back when the internet was anonymous and wild. He used no capitalization, no punctuation, poor grammar, etc.. It was entertaining to try to read his work. Other forum regulars would occasionally translate his post to the Queens English. Some say he did this to have some deniability of his posts meaning.

This and all of the above.

For some reason everything is easier to read on the thread page than the posting/editing box. Maybe the green hue of the forum is good for that.

Usually, but sometimes the mistakes aren't noticed until after posting. Then a little editing is needed.

Sometimes yes.

Sometimes I even use an online grammar check to ensure quality.

Yes it does.

I compose my posts in the Notes app of my iPhone. Proofread.
Copy post and paste into a SIGforum Reply. Proofread again.

The post is so clear in SIGforum! Mistakes are most easily spotted there. Partly because in SIGforum I can expand the text size. Can’t do that in the Notes app

Proofreading = meticulously going over your writing to find and correct errors before publishing or sharing it with the audience.

Correcting errors after posting = editing

That’s how I see it.

As I stated in my post I compose my posts on my iPhone (not my Mac). No Format --> Font --> Bigger there AFAIK. Would love to be proved wrong. iOS 18.5

99% of my SIGforum browsing is on my iPhone. So handy.

It is true that rotating my iPhone to landscape orientation makes the Notes app text a bit bigger.

Sorry, I missed that. The Pages app for iPhone supports font sizes. That might work for you.
