I've watched a LOT of YouTube videos this Winter. Couple of hours worth pretty much every day. Weather has been shitty and the older I get the less I'm likely to venture out in it.

The shorts (HUGE rabbit hole...) aren't bad but regular videos are damn near 50% ads! A minute or two of video, two to four ads and often ads that don't have a skip option.

I got fed up enough to check on the "ad free" premium and that's a big ol NOPE! plus word is you STILL get an occasional ad.

Yes, I know, ad revenue is what keeps the videos "free" but DAMMIT, you don't have to make the whole week's income in one fucking day!

I use Brave. It stops the ads, but Youtube uses methods to consume CPU/RAM over time, (as a method to fuck with people using ad block) and you may have to shut down Youtube and restart it.
I just copy the URL, shut down the browser, then open it and restart the YT session.

It is only a real problem if I am watching really long video or watching alive stream for a while.

Small price to avoid ads.

I use Brave as well, hadn't thought about ad blocker. I'll try it. Thanks.

I use Chrome with the Ublock Origin and CoffeeBreak plugins.

As a result, I see no Youtube ads, or web page ads.

They're taing lessons from Newsmax. Five minutes of content and five minutes of commercials. Rinse and repeat. These places are getting ridiculous.

I have not experienced that with Premium. Just lucky, perhaps—?

Based on how many videos I watch and how much I detest ads of any sort (don't watch the teevee), it is well worth the price to me.

There are of course the things that the channel owners promote directly within the video: Buy my t-shirt, buy me a cup of coffee, support me this way, that way, etc.

I pay for youtube premium and it has been so worth it. But I also use youtube for lots of music and premium allows you to close the app and have the music still play as well.

YT is a provider of entertainment and pays many channels for content. How is YT any different than ota tv? Do you complain about commercials on broadcast tv? Do you think commercials are morally wrong?

Just pay $15 per month and enjoy choosing your own content.

Seeing as I'm already paying $125 a month for TV (for my wife, I don't watch "TV"), yes, I DO complain about commercials. Not about the existence of commercials particularly, but about the frequency and the disgusting ratio of commercial-to-program.

100% of my screen time is streamed via Prime and Netflix, et.al. which again, I pay for. And I'm still fucking inundated with commercials and a couple of times a week I'll bail on programs I would otherwise watch because of the proliferation of commercials.

I will only tolerate 15 seconds or less prior to the YT video beginning. If they drop a commercial in the middle of the video, I almost always bail unless it is a long video more than 10 minutes.

If I see the orange marker in the timeline that indicates a commercial in the middle of the video, I usually bail right away.

I like focus. I hate interruption. An ad up front to pay for the content is reasonable if the length of the ad is in proportion to the length of the video.

Thought it was on by default with Brave. Makes YT unbearable on anything else.

No, I just record everything I watch, then fast-forward through them. Without exception!!!

As to YT, if I can't bypass commercials at the front of the vids by back-spacing and retrying, I usually skip the vid entirely. If it's a long video and a commercial pops up, it's usually a long commercial, and I've become adept at re-starting the vid, then fast-forwarding to the point I was interrupted.

I'm not the least bit opposed to commercials, unless they're left-wing politically or for something I would absolutely never be interested in, so let them run and give a profit to the programs. Just don't try my patience!

What drive me nuts is that youtube has figured out how old I am. As a result what I see is that ad for the Bent Dick Club playing pool or ads for online gambling.

BTW never been a gambler and never will. Because I was taught that winning at gambling meant you were cheating someone innocent and if you lost at gambling it meant you were dumber than a box of rocks. Anyone who is offended by my Box of Rocks statement needs to remember that the House ALWAYS wins.

That Bent Dick Club ad has been around since about 2021 and getting really old and tired. I get enough of that rolling out of bed in the morning. How about some adds for Viagra and the like showing smoking hot young women wearing barely there bikini's while sitting on some geezers lap and bragging on how long the old fart can poke her. While that's a fantasy it's a lot more interesting fantasy than playing pool.

I've stopped counting.
