Especially on the weekends. Friday wasnt too bad.

Driving back from visiting my dad in FL yesterday (Sunday) and as expected, I-95 in SC was a total shit show.

Traffic wasnt bad in GA plus is 6 lanes the whole way...knuckleheads hangin out int he left lane going "their speed so deal w it!" were easily driven around. Mostly.

Then SC and I-95 is only 4 lanes. And WTH SC...your gas prices are the same as every other state but your roads still suck ass!!

I got about 20 miles into SC when Waze told me to exit the interstate (onto 17 I think bad idea - everyone has waze so that route will be worse than I-95) as some idiot ahead was probably texting and got into an accident blocking up the highway for 10 - 15 miles. And its always the same area - between Ridgeland and Florence - which is 2/3 of the state. People going to Hilton Head, Charleston, Myrtle....

FWIW, Southbound was even worse yesterday, and I-26 Westbound was a parking lot (Columbia SC and Atlanta people prob)....

So I took the scenic route and drove on roads West of I-95 up to Orangeburg, and then took 26 to 301 to Santee and got back on I-95. Ok until I-20 dumped all its traffic onto I-95 at Florence. Then the holy hell of storms hit. Possibly the worst rain Ive ever driven through. Left I-95 and took backroads home avoiding the rain.

Gotta find a better route than I-95 between Florence and Ridgeland...or only travel during the week and never before or after a holiday....

!-95 most anywhere, surely South Carolina's not as bad as driving through VA, DC, Baltimore, and NJ.

No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

But you did, at least, stop at South of the Border for some Mexican food which rates below Taco Bell - right? Razz

Oh heck yes our highways suck big time!
301 and 601 are better choices if going straight up to 26 or even up to I-20.

I-95 thru South Carolina can't be worse than driving thru El Paso, Texas on I-10 on Friday afternoon at 5.

Would I-85 be a viable option from Atlanta north?

Probably but then theres the whole driving through GA.

I made it from Tallahassee to The SC state line in like 5 hrs...incl 30 min stop for gas and food in Jacksonville. At that point I should have been home in like 4+ hrs but it took 5+ due to my scenic detour.

301 and 601 do look like viable options going forward - thanks Nframe.

Just did this a week ago and glad took we went that way and it saved us a bunch of time as the folks we were traveling with did not have Waze and kept the interstate. We ended up getting way ahead of them.
In one section of that route it sent me on what I thought was weird and I looked at the parallel road and it was all backed up and we slid right by them.

That section of I95 is a freaking hot mess and we had some crazy torrential down pours that made it even worse.

If you see this email me. Might be able to meet up sometime.

I moved away from Cary about 26 years ago.
