Yup. Cussing doesn’t bother me. It’s an Internet forum if I don’t like the content I move on.

Non issue for me. It does bother me when a cultured woman swears like crazy. That, however is my problem.

I'm pretty off put by the F bomb, but don't shy away from people or places when I come across it.

To me, it's unnecessary and loses all significance when overused.

I worked at a power plant during college. One of the operators would use the F word six different ways in a single sentence. And I do see it as a crutch for those who can't express themselves.

And ever the misogynist, I'm sad for the women who use it.

I stand with the OP.

The all too frequent use of profane language robs it of its power, like stretching a rubber band too much.

Then, when its really needed, its a weakened tool.

And, the irresponsible use of such a valuable verbal implement is a manifestation of personal of personal laziness and selfishness.

One time, when I was around 10, I heard Mom drop "the S-word." It shocked the tar out of me. It was well-warranted, no doubt, and the event stands clear in my memory to this day.

One. Time.

Ralphie as Adult:

My father worked in profanity the way other artists might work in oils or clay. It was his true medium, a master.

I've been a lot of places (including Navy subs and commercial fishing boats) and heard lot of things.
The absolute worst language I have ever heard from a human being was uttered by a female bartender in Groton CT at the "Three Brothers" bar. Beat anything I ever heard in Hong Kong, Subic Bay/Westpac, Tijuana, Amsterdam and Sidney down under by a mile. She went on for three minutes and never repeated herself...

I went on a rant once (here) and called the dude I was pissed at a (C-word). That word is a hot button here and got my post flagged. Not in my typical vocabulary, but I have an Aussie friend and he uses it quite frequently....never towards women.

There is probably not another word in the English language with such utility (though its origins are Germanic) as the word "fuck".

There's surprisingly a lot of pearl clutching going on here.

Growing up on the Southside of Chicago, sometimes we’d take a bus or train to Wrigley Field (Cubs Park) if standing fans blocked the view of the field. Cub fans likely holler out, down in front please, we can’t see.

At Sox Park (Comiskey Park)...Hey asshole sit the fuck down ya fucking jag off! God I miss the Southside, never a gray area!

Sox fan here. Can still name the 1959 White Sox team. Saw Aparcio and FOxx play. Nobody gave a shit about the Cubs until the neighborhood was gentrified. Used to watch them on WGN with Jack Brickhouse. In those days the houses on Sheffield looked like slum housing. I did like Ernie Banks and later Ron Santo.

bill, I'll tell you right off the bat- I am sick and tired of hearing this shit.

For more than a decade, a policy has been in place in this forum which compartmentalizes profanity.

Please refrain from putting profanity in your thread titles

In order to be "exposed" to profanity, you have to open threads. I think this is a reasonable compromise.

Beyond that, anyone offended by profanity has two choices. You can suck it up and acknowledge the fact that adult males may at times pepper their speech with profanity, or, you can leave this forum.

For as long as I own and operate this forum, members will be allowed to use profanity. Anyone who thinks there are no limits of how much salty language you can use here simply is not paying attention. I've reprimanded many members who've gone off on a tirade. Hell, there's a member or two here who have been instructed to never again use profanity in this forum. They just flat wore it out.

I've got a handle on this and things are how I wish them to be, and that is not going to change.

Anyone who complains about "bad words" in this forum is wasting their time, and I do not want to ever again have to address this issue. Quite frankly, short of a minister or a rabbi, I'm shocked and actually kind of saddened that any grown man in this forum would feel the need to complain about a handful of words.

Again, you have two choices in this matter, neither of which involves me altering my policies.

Any questions?

Ya gotta throw Billy Williams in there with Mr Cub & Santo.

One of my favorites, Minne Minoso & got to mention Billy Veeck.
