I like the way you think.

I finally finished tearing down the last of the 400+ suspect rounds at about 2330, and got to cranking out the first batch of "known good" rounds. Now to get to a point where I can shoot them.

A-1, and-a-2, and-a-FUCK. Now one of my back teeth (all of which have had root canals already) has decided to give me trouble. I just came from the dentist's office; they want me to give antibiotics a go before they send me to an endodontist to redo the root canal.

Right before a holiday weekend. Beautiful.

On the plus side this might explain why I've felt so drained the past few weeks. Right upper jaw is a bit swollen and it hurts to bite on it, but it doesn't seem to be like the issue I had a few years ago that ended with 4 teeth getting redone by the endodontist and another one getting an apicoectomy before the dust finally settled (that last one is going to have to get pulled pretty soon) as there's no sensitivity to heat or cold sensitivity that I've noticed.

Before you head to the endo, redo of root canals are often unsuccessful. Might just have it pulled and see if you are eligible for an implant.
My oral surgeon stopped doing apicoectomies and retrofills. Poor success rate.

That's probably where it'll end up. Sadly this isn't my first rodeo. My dentist actually refers to the endo for second tries because of me - he redid it once and the tooth cracked and had to get pulled anyway.

My success rate with the specialist has actually been pretty decent, but it's only been a handful of times that I've had to go. Of course, naturally I'd rather not have to go at all.

ETA: I definitely won't bother with the apico again. Extremely expensive and not cost effective.

If you lose enough teeth you are eligible for an ALL on Four. Replaces entire upper or lower teeth. Non removable denture. Price is steep but people are happy unlike dentures. Google it and see.

I don't need to - Mom had it done a few years ago. She ultimately had a great outcome, but recovery was hell for her. She had a couple of infections along the way that landed her back in the "hot seat."

My goal is to keep from being eligible for that for at least another decade or so minimum.

Well, I got to go shoot Monday.

The plan was to proof some AR test loads so I could get a charge weight to dial the measure in to load 223 on the progressive. I had fun despite forgetting that I have a 25 yard zero on the Eotech. It died in between loads (still haven't investigated; probably dead batteries), but I made the best of it by reading for pressure signs. I found a couple that were stuck in the lands (hard no on shooting those), but overall it was a good time.

Until the pistols came out. Every time I had anything that resembled a failure (change in recoil, sound, fireball at the end of the barrel, etc.) I found myself tearing everything down and checking for an obstruction. I fired some 85 rounds and had one "real" failure (the primer went off but didn't ignite the powder for whatever reason). I've been told this is a pretty typical post traumatic reaction and will get better with time and exposure, and I believe it. It wasn't scary, but it wasn't exactly fun either.

I also got my trigger and barrel for the 10/22 yesterday and installed them. I'm looking forward to getting to see what the Volquartsen barrel is going to do for my accuracy. The Ruger BX trigger isn't the lightest I've got but it's certainly miles ahead of the stock one.

I also had a nice financial windfall that has allowed me to clear up most of my credit card debt with enough left over to accelerate my plans to buy a house in the next few years, which is really nice. Hopefully the market crashes and I'm able to get what I want for a reasonable price.

I've known a lot of people who had dentures who had no problems whatsoever with them. They'd eat apples, corn on the cob, ribs, whatever just like with their own teeth and they were perfectly happy with them. They ate just as fast as anybody else. The greatest generation was full of people like that.

It's technique and a lot of denture wearers never learn it.

The folks I know wear their dentures. Right in the front pocket. You have watched too many Martha Raye commercials. Dentures require a good fit and frequent adjustments to prevent sores. The bottom ones just float in the mouth and often come out at unexpected times. The people that like dentures have never worn them nor a partial denture.
A quick search indicates that five percent of denture wearers are happy with them. Bone loss continues unabated with dentures and the person looks much older than their age. Wearing dentures shortens your life.

Ouch!!! Reminds me of all the Kabooms a few years ago involving Glocks in .40. Lots of destroyed frames and mag wells!! Regarding your food situation. If we lived closer my wife would take good care of you. She specializes in bachelors and injured people!!

Amazing how you know that I watched too many commercials...

Especially when you consider that because of having had cancer of the left vocal cord and subsequent radiation treatments I ended up losing all my teeth and wear full dentures, top and bottom.

Martha Raye is full of shit. Adhesive tastes bad and doesn't feel at all natural from what I've been told. Notice I say from what I've been told because I've never used it and neither has anyone else I know who knows the proper way to do things.

No, I'm speaking from personal experience. I got my full upper denture around 10 years ago, 5 years after radiation treatments and my full lower denture 2 months ago. I got the extractions and the lower on a Monday and ate a 1/2 pound burger on Wednesday with no problems. Ate ribs a week later and corn on the cob a couple of weeks after that. Then apples.

Check out a series on Youtube called Dentures vs. Food. There's a guy that did a series of videos and shows the way to do it without adhesive (which he recommends against) and he is shown eating everything from carrot sticks to corn on the cob to peanut brittle...which I do too except for peanut brittle. I hate peanut brittle.

The people selling implants are the ones who push the old wives tale that you can't eat anything and lead a normal life. That's complete BS. Everyone I know with dentures has no trouble at all.

I am glad that dentures worked for you and you are happy with them. You did not mention that in your post. Do some research and you will find that you are in the minority when it comes to wearing dentures.

Not among the people I know and have known in my life. And I didn't mention that I have dentures as I'm more prone to state facts without injecting my personal life into it unless I have to.

Among that group, I'm among the majority. I've only known one person who had problems, a woman down the street, and I spent 10 minutes telling her what to do and that was the end of her problems.

I was lucky in that my Father In Law stayed in my house for a few months after heart surgery so we could take care of him until he was back on his feet.

The guy ate anything and everything and he did it faster than I do, which is fast. I asked what kind of denture adhesive he used and he said none, that it didn't work well and tasted bad. He said it was all technique and told me how to do it. There are only a few things you need to know, maybe 4 or 5 and that's it. Incidentally, he and his brother both got full dentures upon entering the service right after Pearl Harbor was bombed. Neither had any problems whatsoever and both wore them for over 60 years until the day they died.

So when I got dentures, I remembered it and had absolutely no problems whatsoever.

Anyone who has problems doesn't know those few things, probably because they believe what they've heard from other people about dentures not working and so they either suffer for years or empty their wallet on implants. I feel sorry for them as they've been screwed by the opinions of people who don't know what they're talking about.

Anyhow, when I got dentures I decided I'd try it for 6 months and if I was unhappy, I'd get implants. I wasn't having any problems from the start, so I can't imagine spending the money and getting nothing in return, which is what it would be in my case.

Well, had the Botox treatment yesterday. Grueling. 33 shots in the dome! Here's hoping it helps - it'd be nice to be able to go outside without sunglasses and not regret it.

Also saw the endodontist. Apparently my issues stem from a root that got missed when I had the original root canal done. They were booked out until the 27th, with a cancellation list. I asked what the likelihood of actually getting called with a cancellation is and got a very professionally worded non-answer. Still, I've dealt with this guy before and he does good work so I'll wait it out. It's good to know that this is the probable cause of a lot of my issues - sinus issues, pain, and probably a lot of other stuff that could be symptoms of fighting an infection.

Well, the Botox seems to be at least moderately successful. I still have headaches, and even ended up having a migraine today, but I can be outside without sunglasses for the first time in about 10 years, which is really nice. Severity is also significantly reduced. This and the 20% tint job on the car is a nice 1-2 punch to make me much more comfortable in general. The question remains as to whether I'm willing to do it again.

I went to the range today to get my 10/22 on paper after replacing the barrel and scope, and ended up unsupervised long enough to buy a replacement pistol for the now gaping hole in my collection. I ended up getting a Canik TP9SF, which is something I've been wanting for a couple of years now. I like, though I have a few issues that will result in me buying more toys.

I shot it and the P226, and while I didn't have any ammo issues I did have a couple of rounds that got pushed back rattling around in the ammo can, so they go in the teardown bucket.

I also learned that I'm a horrible shot without a bench. Big Grin

Edit: I called the endodontist's office, and as it turns out they were about to call me. I now have an appointment tomorrow at 0800 for the root canal. Smile

Another update:

Root canal Tuesday morning was quite remarkable, endodontist said it was super infected and he'd have to do a clean out and let another round of antibiotics do their thing. In the meantime I am in pretty bad pain. I expected this and it's been improving as the antibiotics do their thing. The meds I'm already on for my back help take the edge off, too. My sinuses have been clearing up and I haven't noticed as many headaches on my right side. Das ist güt.
