Let's say an OP asks a question that makes little sense to the majority of forumites. For example, a recent thread questioned if the use of a WML to illuminate for purposes of discovery was wise. Within a few posts, the answer was obvious, but the thread continued with ongoing statements of similarity. The OP even replied with some sheepishness, but more posts were made.
I felt badly for the OP.
Would it be helpful if we avoided adding replies, when answers are complete? Would it be helpful for the thread title to be edited to reflect that the original question has been answered?

And miss out on a chance to get our digs in, pile on and sit back from our devices feeling smug and insufferably pleased with ourselves? Are you kidding?
I didn't participate in that thread for the very reasons above, but I'll cop to feeling a little smug about it.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no, sometimes someone much later in the thread might have a different perspective or idea, some people need to have thicker skin.
I also get tired if the constant rehash ... But It is for the ppl to put their words of wisdom out there, not for the receiver that threads even exist.
