I hated, hated, hated riding the school bus for the accurate summary you wrote. I was the first on the bus and last to get off, living a long way from school. And the stupid bus route went 10 miles PAST the school, then backtracked to the school. I was able to drive to school some my senior year. I hated high school as much as I did riding the bus. DidI go to class reunions ? HELL NO. 美しい犬

If I missed the bus coming or going, I walked. Maybe 4 or 5 miles as far as my memory/imagination can remember. I was a little guy, between 1st and 5th grade. I enjoyed the walk since it had various detour routes I could take, like cutting through the woods where the bums hung out, empty liquor bottles and other treasures of sorts for an imaginative fellow. Good memories. Same for after school detention, nobody picked me up, walking was good exercise. But back then I don't remember bad guys abducting children, it was a fairly populous area and simpler times, maybe not for the hippies. There were lots of those. Lover of the US Constitution Wile E. And say my glory was I had such friends. |
A long time ago, I, my brother and sister were military dependents living in SW Germany where my dad was stationed at a German military base. The nearest US operated grade school was 3 to 4 hours drive away. The base offered to set us up for a Sunday evening to Friday afternoon boarding school set up. My folks declined and decided to send us to a closer English speaking school located at a Canadian AF base. It was a two hour ride which required us to cross into France in the morning and then back into Germany in the evening. There were several other kids that joined us for the trip on a “short bus which was drives by a French soldier. One of the problems was the driver spoke French and we all spoke English. Communication was limited and that provides the background of my lasting memory of school bus riding. I watched for an hour as rivulets of little girl pee ran to the back of the bus as the driver accelerated and then reversed course toward the front of the bus as the brakes were applied. Very true because it's hard to find truck drivers as well.
Crazy! No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.
