I received an email with this info today.

“As of February 18, 2022, the price of the monthly Prime membership has increased from $12.99 to $14.99, and the price of the annual Prime membership has increased from $119 to $139. The new prices, plus applicable taxes, will apply after March 25, 2022, on the date of your next renewal.”

Inflation Now! I’ll probably pay up.

Someone mentioned buying a gift membership and using that to activate another year at the 119 price.

We use prime so much, like you, I'll probably just pay up.

I shall respect you until you open your mouth, from that point on, you must earn it yourself.

Yeah, but the last time Amazon Prime raised its price was in 2018, so you've got to look at 4 years of inflation.

One of the perks of market lock.

Even I, who now has Amazon in the category of "vendor of last resort," am sometimes obliged to give them my custom.

I ditched them a couple of months back, I think there was a previous thread about it, and use the 'Free Shipping' option on the things I buy. I really don't care if it takes a day or two longer.

Previously, even with Prime, the assholes were using USPS almost exclusively in my area, so I had to drive to town to collect anything bigger than a pack of playing cards which wasn't what I thought I should be paying for.

I joined Walmart + using my Amex, which refunds me the membership fee.

Here's the email message that I received today:
quote:
Dear Prime Member,

Thank you for being a valued member of Amazon Prime. We are writing to you about an upcoming change to your membership.

As of February 18, 2022, the price of the monthly Prime membership has increased from $12.99 to $14.99, and the price of the annual Prime membership has increased from $119 to $139. The new prices, plus applicable taxes, will apply after March 25, 2022, on the date of your next renewal.

We continue to invest in making Prime even more valuable for members. Since the last price change in 2018, we have added more product selection available with fast, free, unlimited Prime shipping, and we expanded Free Same-Day Delivery from 48 to more than 90 U.S. metropolitan areas. In addition, Prime Video has tripled the number of Amazon Original series and movies; and this September, Prime Video will release the highly anticipated The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and become the exclusive home of NFL’s Thursday Night Football. This is all on top of billions of dollars in Prime Day savings over the years; the addition of new program benefits like prescription savings and fast, free delivery from Amazon Pharmacy; and the continued expansion of Amazon Music for Prime members, Prime Reading, and Prime Gaming.

No further action is required. You may manage your Prime membership anytime by visiting Your Account.

Sincerely,
Your Amazon Prime Team

Still have it and will probably still pay the new price. I've been a member since Amazon was just a bookstore in the 90s.

Given that the free two day shipping is a thing of the past, I'm not really sure it's worth it though. That was always the main reason I had it.

Still about half the price of Netflix and you get free two-day shipping on Amazon. It's a better deal than most other streaming services and "buyer's clubs"

I checked my 2021 orders -- 82 different orders. At $120 this is $1.50 shipping per order. At $140 this is $1.70 per order. I'm good.

358 orders in 2021, it’s still a bargain.

I quit Amazon altogether. I’m not giving those schmucks any more of my money. I’m a little surprised that so many here actually still willingly give Amazon money.

Need some vinyl shutter fasteners. Checked Home Depot: $10 and change for a bag of 12 and I'd have to go get them. Checked Amazon, $8 and change for a bag of 12 and they'll be here tomorrow.

Plus, I order something multiple times a week, sometimes something as small as breath mints and Amazon overnights it.

Plus, they made Reacher.

I'll pay up.

This. Amazon hates people like us. I now use Walmart.com and other sites and pay nothing for shipping and no annual fee.
