I am under the impression that you can make a right turn at a red stoplight after a complete stop--if there is no traffic or pedestrian. I haven't seen anyone follow this law-- its now red light means go, go faster.

Friday morning on the way to work: I'm driving on a state highway 50mph. As I'm approaching a traffic light (green for me} I can see a car driving toward the intersection at a good rate of speed (he has the red light). He blows thru the red light and I nearly rear ended him. I blow my horn, he gives me the finger. Entitled teenage shit! Living the Dream

Absent any signage to the contrary, I believe the OP’s assertion to be true in Florida. The person doing so is the last person to have the right of way behind even people doing U-turns at the intersection.

Having had 4 seizures & 2 strokes, I couldn’t drive for 1 year. My year is up and I wonder how some folks got a license.

In Louisiana it is legal for right turn on red after stopping unless otherwise posted not allowed..... In fact left turn on red is allowed if turning left onto a one way street with traffic flowing from right to left after stopping prior to making the left turn.................. Actually have been stopped by the popo for doing just that... but he was not happy when I promised him to show up in court with a copy of Title 32 (traffic laws) and prove him wrong. ........................................ drill sgt.

Apparently in Kentucky stop signs and lights are mere suggestions.

What is the law turning right on red after stopping, onto the empty right lane of a 4-lane road when there's traffic coming in the left lane? I always thought if there's traffic coming in either lane you couldn't turn. No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

Unfortunately most people don't turn correctly. When making a right (in Florida, but I'm sure everywhere else too) you are required to turn into the right most lane. As long as that lane is open you are safe to turn. Most people I see make wide right turns and go straight into the middle or left lane.

I live in central Florida. As SIGfourme has mentioned "I haven't seen anyone follow this law-- its now red light means go, go faster." I have noticed this especially more in the last few years. We are seeing more and more people not only from other states but from around the world move here to central Florida. Some of those that have come here to live from other country's especially, have never owned a car let alone driven on any major roadways. We also have a lot of tourist who visit, especially from overseas where direction of travel on our roads are different than what they are used to. Over the years I have had a few cars coming at me on my side of the road. I am not sure what the process to get a license in Florida is but I do remember in New Jersey having to go through some sort of driving school before going for a driving test. The driving school part did a good gob at giving you a better idea of what was expected of you on the road. As a firefighter I also had to take a Defensive driving course and EVOC(emergency vehicle operations course) to be able to start my training to be able to drive fire apparatus and ambulances. A few weeks ago I was almost T Boned at a four way stop. As I approached the four way stop I saw a car in the distance approaching the intersection from the opposite direction. As I came to a stop I lost sight of the approaching car as it went down a dip in the road. When it was my turn to go and as I started to make my left turn something in my head said wait and as I did the car that was approaching blew through the stop sign like it was not there. If I had completed my left turn I would have been hit by a car doing about 40 to 50 miles an hour. I drive a Scion FR-S two door sports car. If I was hit there would have been a good chance I would not be here typing this. People blowing red lights around here has become the norm, not stopping at stop signs and blocking intersections is also becoming a big problem around here. I see it all the time. It seams that people have become very impatient and only care about them selves. Its the all about me attitude. The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. Just be careful out there. My first cousin had her car totaled two months ago by a driver who ran a stop sign. Two weeks later her new car was totaled by a driver who ran a red light. She survived these incidents with minor injuries, but it could have been much worse. Not too long ago, a woman approaching from a cross street ran through a red light and slammed into the side of my truck. She then lied about it to the cop, telling him that I had run a red light and she had the green. Fortunately, everything was captured on my dash camera, clearly showing that I had the green light, and another woman who was behind me stated that we had the green and the woman who had hit me was the red light runner. Flo from Progressive (the miscreant's insurance carrier) came to my place, inspected, and wrote a check on the spot. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

This and a few other reasons are the main reason we have front and rear facing dash cams in both of our cars. The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. My son was an autopsy tech for many years. He told me he saw a lot of T-bone victims. The lateral impact caused the heart to move enough to tear the aorta. End of story. Oh, come on now. There's only one lane in Florida, my lane!. My lane is not defined by any dashed or solid, yellow or white painted lines. In fact, my lane is designated as any place that I am plus anyplace that I want to be. This maybe confusing as to who has the right of way and when, but it's really quite simple: when I am in my lane, I have the right of way.!

It looked like the car was going so fast it probably would have pushed the entire right passenger side of the car into the drivers seat. Several years ago when I was an active firefighter in New Jersey we did a lot of extrication calls. Back then cars were bigger so you had more metal surrounding you, not sure how much of a difference it made protecting you though. In all the years I do not ever recall being on a call for fatal motor vehicle accident. The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution.
