True. Back when we lived in the Denver area, Super Bowl day was a great day to go skiing. No crowds at all on the mountain.

That reminds me. We lived in the Denver area in the mid 1980's. Summit County had four ski mountains: Arapahoe, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, and Keystone. One year they had a "buy one, get one" Ski-The-Summit season pass. Normal price was $600 per person, for unlimited access to any of the four areas. Wife and I got two passes for six hundred bucks.

After a few times skiing, my wife said, "the first time we went cost us $300 each. Second time $150. It gets cheaper each time. How many times do we have to go before it's free?"

I looked at her and said, "Dearie, you just invented calculus."

What I hate about it? I hate that a Sunday pastime I enjoyed for many wet Washington Januaries has turned into a woke fest and celebrates almost everything I abhor about an indoctrinated culture that thrives on ruination.

The upside is that this Jan. I got three cords of mixed fir and madronna split and I'm actually too old for that stuff.

“Professional sports are meaningless”. Well sure, but so is art, any work of fiction, music, sports cars, vacations, the list goes on and on. Humans need shelter, air, food, and water. Everything else is meaningless. Don’t fucking believe me? How about you find yourself starving or without water or in a smoke filled enclosure, all of a sudden everything else becomes meaningless.

I don't watch any pro sports anymore, but I do follow them to some degree.

I stopped watching them for a few reasons (none of them sociopolitical reasons) One reason was there's the game, and everything else. It takes 4-5 hours to play a 1-3 hour game.

The Super Bowl had long been the worst offender, 85% of the day is "everything else". Yick.

When the game was over I went on line, found a 17 minute highlight video. Then skipped past half time and watched it from there. It was the most enjoyable super bowl I'd seen in years. Big Grin

The next day I was talking about the game with someone when it hit me that I hadn't actually watched it, yet I was fully informed in the conversation.

The main issue is the taxpayer money used for these sports.

Yep, homeowners get hit, hard.

I loathe the commercials, and don’t watch them. I didn’t watch the SB because of them. I also loathe the half time bullshit. Lip synced and just stupid and pointless.

Related:
The Green Bay Packers (many fans here in the Yoop) will pay QB Aaron Jones 11 million dollars for the 2023 season.
But, of course 11 million doesn't go as far as it used to! Roll Eyes

I took a knee again on supporting the NFL. Did not catch a single game again, just kept to doing personal things instead, it was much better as it turned out. I'd tuned into the super bowl a few years back with family to catch the commercials, but now I can pick all that up a few weeks later (and skip the ones I hate) on the net.

So, still taking a knee.

I have never been a fan,
of football, or whatever,
wife, however is, and her office is,

so she watches the game, I surf and watch the commercials,

couple of things,

I realize women have not flown combat till relatively recently, but they did ferry a lot of planes in WW2, which was very important, which seems to have been forgotten,

half rijme generally sucks, and this one was not much different,

and the commercials, for the most part, were not that great,

ETA: I totally understand why people hate the NFL. They deserve the hatred for their leftist shit. That’s different than hating all sports to me. I don’t know why people don’t hate the leftist MLB and NHL too and why there are often threads about both organizations that don’t get anywhere close to the amount of people popping in to shit on them. I guess they aren’t leftist enough yet.

{snipped} I agree completely.

As a kid all we did is play sports - everyday .

It helps if you actually participated in a/the sport too.
Kids now days just stay inside all day and play video games.

It kind of hard to defeat that love but politics will do that.
All the focus on "the money" is another way to distance the fan from the sport too.
It especially ruined basketball for me.
Now it is just Golf and Football a bit of Baseball but mostly Golf.
Golf is mostly about performing on the field (course) and if you don't you don't get paid - the way it should be (sans any talk about LIV).

When I was a kid the NFL was not that popular. My little League coach played for the Bears and did not make a ton of money. No big deal. Followed the Packers and the Bears. Then the money and politcs came in. Ruined the game.
