I texted The Lovely Girlfriend a moment ago, taunting her about some ice cream I had picked up while she’s at her parents’ place.

Speech-to-text butchered me once again, almost as if it were competing with autocorrect to see who can make a bigger mess of things. (What ever happened to damnyouautocorrect dot com?)

It went a little like this:

Me: I have ice cream, yes I do! I have ice cream, how ‘bout you?

TLG: I do, I do! What kind do you have?

Me: Homestead Creamery espresso chocolate chip. I was looking for women crunch, but they were out. This will do.

(And then I read what had been sent.) OMGOSH! Eek

TLG: Really?

Me: LEMON crunch! Stupid speech to text!

I’m sure glad TLG puts up with me. Smile

ETA: Lemon crunch, for those interested.

Speech-to-text called my former student/trainee and current part-time employee "my hot ranger friend." Every aspect of that accurately describes her, but it's not what I actually SAID.

Thankfully, she has a sense of humor.

Turn off auto-correct. I always do. I don't need my phone guessing what I'm trying to say.

I call it iFuckcorrect....

Just to help a bit...

To turn off autocorrect on an iPhone, go to Settings > General > Keyboard and toggle off Auto-Correction. You can also disable Predictive text and Check Spelling in this same menu to further customize your typing experience.

I find dictation, at least on my iPhone, superior to my accuracy + autocorrect insanity.
Also I use voice to Grok for simple questions when I’m expecting a short answer and not a midterm essay.

Also a danger in email translations.

Had a peer send a very unfortunate email to Mr. Balloszak, and another to Mr. Aswad.

Neither the ballsack or asswad seemed surprised.

A psychiatrist friend tried Dragon for his professinal work. Never again, psychiatry is pretty much all words. BTW he speaks the Kings English and is very clear in his speech.

I don't do speech to talk. I can type faster than I talk. I can read faster than I can listen to someone speak

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.
