I signed up for Nextdoor.com hoping to be able to have intelligent conversation with people in my area about things, find things for sale, learn about things, etc. I am about to just delete the account because I am beyond fed up with all the “Anyone know what’s going on?” Posts. They saw a police car on the side of the road or blocking off a street, they saw a fire truck, they saw a helicopter, they saw an ambulance, and their nosey asses just want to know what is going on. Unless it involves you such as your street is shut down and you can’t make it home, then who the heck cares?

Probably the only time I wondered only in my head of what was going on was when I was traveling Northbound on IH-35 in Round Rock extremely early in the morning and there were literally hundreds of emergency vehicles and I was diverted to an access road. I didn’t go post about it, but later learned that was when they caught and the Austin bomber killed himself.

I don’t understand this obsession with wanting to know absolutely everything any emergency vehicle is ever doing. It always has the title, “ Anyone know what’s going on at……?” Beyond annoying to me.

It's the 24 hour news cycle. CNN started it and the internet made 1000 times worse. Gone are the days of hearing everything we needed to know on the 6 o'clock news and people knowing that if it was important enough they'd hear about it. Otherwise? I've got more important shit to worry about. Now everybody's a busybody.

When I bought my house here in Tucson I signed up for ND and it lasted about 3 months before I shut it down. Same reason.

I had a rather terse conversation with a neighbor wanting to know the details of something going on and I suggested she call 911 and they would tell her everything.

Wife is on nextdoor occasionally. Now I can't let the dog out without her locking the door behind me, and turning all the outdoor lights on. Coyotes & boogeymen were seen in the hood.

Everytime I leave the garage door open more than 20 minutes I hear about every car in 10 miles that had shit stolen out of it.

Also very petty. I hear about the guy who thinks his neighbors share a book cabinet is an eyesore and creates unwanted foot traffic near his home. It's just off the sidewalk and looks like an oversize birdhouse.

I saw the thread title and through, "Is Sigforum becoming like NextDoor too?

But, yes, I wonder why people wonder about police cars on the side of the road. Or "BEWARE! NEW SCAM!"

criminy.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I signed up for it a year or so ago, thought the site might be interesting, but it only took a couple of visits to realize it ain't for me.

I'm still a member, as I have been too lazy to figure out how to get off of it, but now all the posts go to my "junk file," and I nuke 'em later without reading them.

They have no lives man. They are the same sort who go ballistic over some Hallmark holiday bullshit that lasts one whole day. Lifeless, soulless morons with absolutely nothing better to do.

It has its uses. Key is to set your filters & settings, so you don't get inundated w/ constant, "What's going on?", "There's a dog loose," "Who is this who knocked at my door?", etc posts.

Worse than the nosy neighbors, busybodies, & Karens are the members who insist on using ND as a political platform. It's as if FB, X, IG, etc aren't enough for them.

When my department transitioned to digital radio communications, because a regulation on the books for years forced them to do so, some of the residents started crying because they couldn't listen on their 20 year old scanner.

If that's the best thing they can do with their time, they need serious help. They weren't smart enough to know that anything really interesting was transmitted by a cellphone.

Even today in Epping, I see all the comments here in Epping asking "what's all the sirens for?" I guess the EMS should let them know about a call before rolling.

Had one locally yesterday. Someone had seen three local cops with gun drawn pointed at a subject in a car. That's about all the info that was given, other than the location. The first comment up was "Probably racial profiling." Apparently dumb asses are attracted to the format.

HA! Tonight I used your reply word for word to this post that just came through: “ Anyone know why 4 constable cars were parked in front of a house on Pine Forest Circle yesterday afternoon?”

I actually emailed Nextdoor corporate to ask them to please create a category for “Anyone Know What’s Going On?” So I can filter it out and others interested can get it. No response. I don’t know how to filter these out as the put them in the category of public safety and such.
