Not only no. but fuck no! Keep your shit! In the last couple of months in the Phoenix area I've had Circle K tell me they need to scan my license to buy lottery. They say it's corporate policy to make sure the cashiers are checking IDs. That's funny I can by alcohol at Circle K and they don't scan my ID. Then to night I am at Bevmo and they give me the same spiel. Again nope keep your stuff I'll go elsewhere. | ||

Checking IDs I can tolerate (although silly when I'm clearly over 18/21, it is somewhat understandable), but there is no need whatsoever to scan them. If store management really needs to ensure compliance with policy, there are better ways. And if they have so little trust in their employees, it implies poor leadership. | |||

Idk what they use the data for, but I believe the whole reason to scan is to collect data. Maybe they sell it, maybe they use it internally. Here in Utah booze is only sold at the state store, and they scan the license. So the state is keeping a database. This whole big data thing really bothers me. They aren't using the data to improve my life! | |||

I was in NOLA and the wife wanted to go into Harrah's (casino). They wanted to scan my license. I declined (although I did show it). They let me in anyway. Could be they don't trust their employess to be smart enough, or honest enough to do it visually. It's not like they're going to make lots of money selling the fact that you bought a $2 scratch off. Who are they going to sell it to? Another state's lottery commission?  | |||

These businesses likely found a buyer for your data. Probably not yours, specifically, your demographic information is being sold. If they want to scan my ID, to sell my data, I should getting a discount (not gonna happen). Otherwise, I’ll do my business elsewhere. | |||

When I am asked to present ID, I do not use my Driver License unless there is a need to show that I am authorized by the state to operate a motor vehicle, like when renting a car / truck, or a traffic stop or accident involvement. If all I need to show is proof of identity or age, I will use either my Florida CWP, or my passport card. Neither of these have as much personal information as the driver license; they do not have my address, nor anything other than my name, date of birth, photo, and the document number. Or.... They likely want to protect their liquor license investment against any claims that they were not following the law. Being able to prove that you actually had a legitimate ID in front of you is a pretty good defense against any claims, much more so that your word against theirs. | |||

That may be so, but they still will not get my business. I've been places since then that didn't even ask for my ID when purchasing alcohol. I am not a young'n and do not believe I look that young. Hell my beard is almost all white now. | |||
