All three of the local news shows are doing this now.

They think that their viewers need to know where the police presence was last night or yesterday morning.

That's it, that's all.
"They were at these cross streets"
Roll Eyes

Maybe they are just filling in time, who knows but it's asinine information with out the rest of what might be a story.

I think the days of the beat reporter are over. I think all the news does now is join local groups on social media and get their news cheaper that way.

Here you know they've nothing to report when they simply repeat the prior nights "news."

Most often "breaking news" here is about Yet Another Shooting in Detroit, and I'm thinking "Hasn't this become rather normal for Detroit?" What's "breaking news" about it? "Breaking news" would be more like "There were no shootings in Detroit today!"

Then they'll follow the Yet Another Shooting in Detroit with a story about how wonderful Detroit's becoming, what with its "revival" and all. And I'm thinking "Do these people not watch their own 'news' broadcasts?"

I HATE local news and the local paper.
Local news is only doom and gloom followed by weather and old news sports.
The newspaper is ridden with anti-conservative from start to finish.

Enough. Mad

I watch the local news for the weather. In the morning, the traffic report can be useful, and the traffic reporter is the hottest thing on TV.

I watch the local news so I can catch up on the latest group of ambulance chasers.

All the local Chicago news "shows" here briefly discuss the news events of the day. They act like there is no bad news in the Chicago area.
They are so intent to protect the Gov and all Democrat politicians they fluff over everything.
They do cover anything that could possibly reflect poorly on the Chicago Police officer, NEVER the top Police command.
Over the last couple years they have found that just giving an address where a news story is happening is too boring, every area now has a community name. I have lived here for 71 years and NEVER heard of the neighborhood names they have concocted.
This weekend two women were backed over by a boat in Lake Michigan. Instead of giving the beach name and location the "new" name of the waterfront area has become the "PLAY PEN".

The news stations replaced all the old time reporters with fresh young faces. Unfortunately many are very unattractive and it becomes a chore to watch them perform. The news anchors are even worse.
Fat, unattractive black women or gay men has become the new standard.

I will not watch any NBC broadcast. I will watch selective news stories on YouTube were I can pick and choose. I also watch the weather( don't get me going on the Heat index, feels like, or wind chill index slant to glorify even the weather) this way, NEVER an actual news broadcast.

That playpen moniker has been around for awhile. You probably remember the Viagra triangle. I enjoy the reporter with the thick Irish accent on WGN. Skilling is still around and the anchors are ok. You are just getting up in years. You probably did not attend Lolapalooza either.lol

The one I can't understand half of what she reports on. Must be a huge shortage of reporters to have to bring one in from Ireland.

Chicago has a large Irish population. Personally I am waiting for the Polish reporter as Chicago has more Poles than Warsaw.

There is a local weekly county oriented newspaper I've subscribed to for the past 15 years. It keep me informed of local gvt goings on and events of interest to the county. In the past 8 months, I've noticed a slow slide to the woke mentality, no doubt to the new female editor. Nothing blatant, but subtle.

Until last week, when the editor reviewed a book, about southern textile mills in my area, and just had to inject "white supremacy " was the main drive of the southern textile industry.

Passed me off. Think I'll be writing a letter that "idiot supremacy "is the main drive of the local newspaper industry.

And cancel my subscription.
