I'm sorry if I hurt you feelings when I called you stupid - I thought you already knew - Unknown ................................... When you have no future, you live in the past. " Sycamore Row" by John Grisham

The worst is that PA accent around Philly that you hear on Mare of Easttown.

You have reached the municipal fire department emergency line. We are experiencing higher than normal call volume and all of our operators are serving other callers. Your call is very important to us. Please wait for the next available representative. You are currently caller number 17. Your expected wait time is <click> <dial tone>

Did you ever wonder just exactly how much your blood pressure rises when that recording starts? I swear to God, some days I think I can actually hear it go up!
I watched a 1956 movie. They had similar problems then. Busy signal on the Emergency line. The detective really slammed the receiver down on the black rotary phone.

I went through this multiple times with a company recently, got the "Higher than usual call volume" message, followed by.. "there are ZERO callers ahead if you...", then the option to stay on the line or have them call you back (which is obviously what they wanted). First time a just assumed they were closed. Next day I thought "well maybe that person's off?" A couple calls a day, several days a week, for a couple weeks. Every time was 5-10 minutes to get the same one girl to answer the phone. I stayed on hold out of spite. lol
I get two credit card applications per month and pitch them all .
Then I had to get a c.c.
I asked the local bank c.c. specialist about the phone service that the c.c. company offers. She said never more than 7 minutes and always with English speaking employees based in the continental U.S.
And by golly after four months of use. She was right.
