Microsoft called again today

rtquigMicrosoft called again today
It drives my daughter and wife crazy when I answer these calls and screw with the caller. It seems that the Social Security Administration notified Microsoft that someone is trying to steal my identity and is doing it through my computer. Microsoft wants me to turn my computer over to them online.
Me: "I'm just an old man that knows nothing about computers, What do I have to do, pay you money to fix it"? Click! It seems they don't like it when you waste their time.

SigSACI got another "AT&T" call today. Looked at the caller ID, waited, heard the chunk of a call center connecting. Caller had eastern Indian accent.
Problem was that caller ID said State of California Human Resources . . . .
Nice try, bud. .

egregoreBeen getting some e-mails from "account services" saying "we were unable to process your card." They get moved to spam or deleted on sight without reading them. As for phone calls, I answer no calls from anyone outside my contact list.

oldbill123I got a google voice message from Amazon. A 769 dollar charge from Dayton Ohio was hitting my account. Press 1 to connect to Amazon customer svc.
Actually I received about 10 of these messages. All from different phone numbers, but they all had my local area code and prefix.

TinymanAmazon -- "someone is using your account to order items -- "press 1 to speak to a customer rep". I don't have an Amazon account.
Apple -- "you only have until the end of today to pay your Apple account". Damn, I don't have an Apple product.

whanson_wiIt's a wonder they can ring through, with all the time the car extended-warranty people spend on my line.

I would like to apologize to anyone I have *not* offended. Please be patient. I will get to you shortly.

GWbikerWhen the number comes up as possible SPAM I answer them in what little German I know, or hand over the phone to GF who answers in Italian.

m1009Ha, I got a voicemail yesterday, that my credit card / debit card will be charged $799.99 for services. If I don’t want to renew to dial 1 or call the number.

Yeah, right. Didn’t specify WHAT services, or what this was from. Delete. I don’t answer calls unless I recognize the caller.

trapper189I hate these people with a passion.
My dad calls me one day and asks me if this sounds right. He tells me Microsoft is on the other line and ....
I really do hate them.

FredwardI don't get craps calls anymore. There's a feature on my phone that screens out callers I don't have in my address book.

sourdough44Yes, and the packages that need attention to deliver. I was just working with a guy yesterday who has an elderly relative that fell for the ‘computer problem’ scam. He gave them control of his computer, they eventually took $3k out of one of his accounts.
Theses scams work on a few.

muzzleloader"Windows" called my 85 year old mom. Yup, they got a CC# out of her. Water-boarding would not be out of line with these leeches.

VoshterkoffI’ve learned a few rude words in Hindi for such occasions. China can’t nuke these idiots fast enough.

What happens when they do? Do they fuck up the computer with ransomware or other viruses, go on a spending spree with the newly obtained number, both, or what? A call to the CC company could get most or all of the bogus charges reversed, the computer is another story.
