Just got my new work PC, was trying to look up something on YouTube about a rifle and the video is blocked. Bullshit.

Blocked at the computer? Or blocked upstream by router or DNS?
When I was doing contract software development at BellSouth, we were not allowed to use company owned equipment to access websites that were not 100% work-related. Before that prohibition went into effect, the woman in the cubicle next to mine spent most of her day doing personal shopping online.

I quit watching anything, and I mean absolutely anything, that some woketard person at work, could bust me for. Watch it/listen to it on your phone.

What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

Don't use your work computer for anything non-work related.

Companies lose a ton of money in lost productivity due to this kind of activity.
So I don't blame them for controlling it if they can.

I can understand restricting access to websites that are not work-related. I owned a small business. I had one employee who really abused the use of company resources.

Running a business and meeting payrolls for employees who think they have some right to use my computers/phones/tools/equipment for personal entertainment while drawing wages to be there taking care of business, yeah I think that's just really special.

If I fire an employee I'm required to pay them up to date at time of termination. If I suspend an employee for a week without pay that gives me a few days to get that final paycheck ready to hand over at the termination meeting. Maybe you can tell which option is more entertaining for me.

I was in IT for a long time. At a senior level. I worked on strategic planning and standards. I worked closely with cyber security. So I say this with more than a little understanding of the topic.

Do not use the PC, or any electronic device, your company provides to you for anything other than work. The device is theirs, they can and will monitor.

Let me help you out. Which way did you come in?

100% work on work equipment. I don't even complain in the workplace chat app when I communicate with co-workers I know well.

^^ Exactly. Assume everything is monitored and a summary reported to management.

Zero work apps on my phone as well. If they want me to have a work phone, they can provide one. It's too easy to never completely stop working if you're checking e-mail and chats on your personal phone.

Work use on workplace supplied equipment only. Almost all companies state in employee guidelines they have the right to monitor you on all their equipment and I wouldn’t take the chance of loosing your job over it. A few of the more tolerant companies may have instituted a policy allowing non-work use during lunch or over breaks, but those are few and far between and would have publicized that policy so employees are aware of it. Otherwise, don’t take the risk!

If they worked like I do? Yup... I go above and beyond so much, that's it just normal now. A 40 hour week would be part time. I work nights, weekends, holidays, vacation days. So, yeah, if they were employees like me I would. Sitting in some middle of nowhere shit city for work travel, I don't want to bring 2 PCs so I can watch some YouTube on my few off hours.

This is the Pitch Your Bitch section... I didn't say I don't think they have the right, they absolutely do. It just sucks. I know why they did it, but I can still think it sucks.

That sucks. What a dumb thing to do. People being afraid of guns to that extent is absurd.

I got a company laptop when I started this job last March and I have not turned it on once. I’m not even sure where it is. Thankfully now that I can access my email from any computer and have access to Microsoft Office online I don’t need to use a specific computer. I downloaded all the other programs I needed and just asked IT for any license keys.

I created two profiles on my personal laptop and have one setup to do work related stuff and the other to do personal stuff. But being a personal laptop my company has no control over my laptop and no access to see how I’m using it.

Back when I had to use a company laptop I carried a personal one with me too. The company laptop only got used for company stuff. I never once used it for anything personal.

The company I worked for blocked gun forums , etc, and only Supervisors or above could access Social media .This was on desktop computers . The phones belonged to us even though they paid us a stipend .
