Before I retired, management where I worked constantly paired me with this asshole that called out at least twice a week. A union shop, and this prick had far exceeded the conditions for termination due to attendance, and the company didn't/wouldn't fire the guy. Management also expected you to do the work of the person that called out sick. The work of two, done by one. It made for a VERY long work day. The union there only protected the useless, lazy, and incompetent workers. The call out guy was routinely spotted out riding his motorcycle when he had called out. (small town, easy to spot) One day, following one of his call outs, I lit into him and called him a useless lazy fucking slacker. He whined, I have COPD... COPD? What's that I asked? Cock sucking on pus filled dicks? It wasn't long after that, I pulled the plug and retired. If they had paid me for doing the work of two, it would have been easier to accommodate the chronic habitual call outs. The company had just spent multiple millions of dollars and purchased several pieces of high end German manufacturing equipment. That was my specialty at my employment, the setup, operation and troubleshooting of that expensive specialty German equipment. I laughed, speaking with some of my former coworkers that I remained in contact with after I retired, that new fancy German equipment sat for about a year and a half before the company got people trained adequately to do what I had done. The company wanted to retain my expertise and have me come back as a consultant/outside contractor, I refused. Recently, the manager that was the driving force with retaining the chronic call out employee had a large party at his new to him fancy property. Brand new house, equipment barn filled with new equipment, pond, many acres of land. I heard through the grapevine it was quite a party, and illicit substances were consumed by many present at that party. The Monday following the party, the manager was "tapped" for a random drug test. He walked out without taking the drug test. He returned the next day, and resigned. The manager, now without the fancy job, has no possible way to pay for his fancy spread. I laughed again. NRA Benefactor Life Member NRA Instructor USPSA Chief Range Officer

Nor should they, and I have long held that position. Those professors and that university are working for the student. In other words, I'm paying you. If I already know the material, as judged by your examination, why warm a seat? Yes, I know, there is more to an education than that, but at an undergrad level where some of the students are far smarter than the TAs "teaching" the courses? Not really. ________________________________________________________ It is long past time for a Convention of States. Absolutely false. I rarely used my sick time. Every year I could buy back a week. When I retired I was paid for most of my unused sick time with came to a very fat check. Unused vacation/ holidays or personal days were paid if not used. Using sick days and vacation time is two totally different issues. Employees need time off and that time should be used. Then you have those that could care less and use a sick day for a personal day because they would rather be somewhere else causing someone else to be forced in or held over in some cases. Then we had a few who used every sick day within the first few months. Then ion far too many cases when they got hit with something serious, they were out of sick time and acted surprised when no check was issued. It doesn't take much to get hit with something that could sideline someone for a few weeks. or in one serious case months. They better hope they had a good plan B.

Your experience at your agency doesn't render someone else's experience at their agency/agencies "absolutely false". The statement wasn't that no agency out there ever notices or rewards their officers for not using their time off. Rather, that my former agency and apparently 92fstech's agency do not. It's great that you were paid out your sick time partially each year and fully when you left. I didn't have that opportunity. I had max sick time in the bank, to the point where I had stopped accruing it many years ago. And I got nothing year to year for it, and not a cent for it when I left. (I did get paid for my banked vacation time, but I likewise was maxed out on that and had stopped accruing.) So count your blessings, but don't be so quick to call others who weren't as fortunate wrong/false.

We had a Foreman that failed a random drug test . No big deal , The company will send you to rehab and your job is safe. ONCE . When he got back everything was fine , but they will do follow up testing . The dumbass failed again. He threw away a damn good job.
