We're likely not hiking out, but if we do then it would be a pistol for each of us. A P229 and P320 in 9mm plus a bunch of ammo. If we're walking then the long gun might well be a Ruger 10/22 with a bunch of ammo. Light weight will be important as we are senior citizens.

If we're driving the long gun will be an AR and a bunch of loaded mags. Most likely also both handguns, too. Honestly, my wife won't be a big contributor in any serious confrontation, so the gun choices are primarily what I would be using. A gun visible on her person would be mostly as a deterrent to people sizing us up as potential victims.

If you'd let me take 4 guns, I'd have the wife carrying the Walther P22. While not as lethal, she is more adept with it.

In what I possess I would have to leave my favorites at home and stick with what would be my best S.H.T.F. weapons

3) That's it...I'm not carrying anything else.

Caveat...The only place I would consider bugging out to is the woods behind my house. Otherwise, I'll just stay in and whatever happens, happens.

I used to think I’d carry a chest rig and 8 spare mags with extra loose ammo for an AR-15 or something like that.

If I’m on foot I’d likely just have a 9mm pistol and 2-3 mags. Hopefully a box or two of spare ammo if I can carry the weight. Will be mostly water, shelter, and food.

I’d like to think between my wife and I we could throw 2 SBRs in 9mm in the pack but probably just unrealistic.

The reality of “bugging out” sounds worse and worse the older I get. If it’s anything more than temporary, which apocalypse wouldn’t be, I think I’d just take my chances at the house.

When I see/hear what a lot of folks load-outs looks like I think of 80lb loads and ask them if they can run 2 miles with that?

Cardio will be critical if people really do have to move about on foot.

Owning land away from your current resident, let’s say 10-20 acres in the country where you have a deer camp cabin allows for multiple items to be stored long term without fear of others finding. All you need is a tape measure, and a shovel once you get there. It is actually the identified rendezvous point where our family members have agreed to meet in the event of the need to bug out.

Because of this my three guns would be:

Sig P226 in 9mm with a suppressor
AR-15 with a suppressor
Ruger 10/22 with a suppressor

Would only need a few extra mags and ammo for each while making the 8 mile back roads trip.

Hmmmm…..

Going with just three is hard.
