Greetings! Does anyone have tips on replacing the slide roll pins on a carbon steel folded slide P228?

I replaced the pins on an older pre-owned P228 and had a hard time getting the new pins installed. I slightly flatted the end of the outer pin and now it’s walking out after firing a few hundred rounds.

Im not sure how you installed the pins ?

But normally you use a roll pin punch that have a hollow center to allow the pin to insert into it.

Then gently start taping the pin inward but not completely in. When the punch gets closer to the slide without touching it then use a solid 1/8 punch the same size of the punch and finish setting the pin flush with the slide.

Start the outer H.D (with the slot at 12 o’clock) into the slide , so that it is flush with the inside of the slide.

While holding the breachblock by its under rib, insert it straight into the skide, ensuring that it is fully seated.

With the thumb and index finger holding the breachblock in place, drive in the outer pin H.D . Until it enters the first half of the breechblock. Depress the firing pin slightly to allow the outer pin H.D. To pass, retain it. At this point, start the inner pin H.D. with its slt positioned opposite that of the outer pin H.D. , and drive it flush . Then continue installation of the inner and outer pins H.D. ,until they are centered in the slide.

Note: The slot of the outer pin H.D. should point upward at 12 o’clock and the slot of the innerpin H.D. ,should point down at 6 o ‘clock.

Check to ensure that the firing pin safety lock are functioning safely and smoothly.

Sample of the roll pin punches.

Thanks Greymann

That is very helpful when starting the pin. And then finishing up with a roll pin punch.
