Hello all, I first posted this in the Sig general discussion area by mistake. Sorry about that. I'm sure this has been discussed but any help is appreciated. My P232SL take down lever has rotated on the pin. I've disassembled the pistol and removed the lever assembly and plan to have it laser welded to eliminate the issue. I was curious if anyone here has done this and if it was successful. Thanks in advance Bruce

I haven't had that problem but have heard of it.

I think I'd try cleaning a spot on the backside of the lever at the shaft, then zapping it with a TIG welder (turned way down!) - Another approach might be to drill a small hole on the backside at the intersection of the shaft and lever, then tap in a short length of welding rod with a tiny bit of retaining compound and cut of the excess off flush if you don't have a TIG welder handy.

I’ll just throw out another idea. Matrix Precision manufactures a very high quality replacement takedown lever for the classic P-series pistols (P220, P228, P229, P226). You could contact them and see if they would have any interest in manufacturing a replacement part for the P232. They are very customer oriented.

I have an issue involving the slide stop lever, block , pin and spring.

I broke my lever at the shaft when I attempted to turn it down. I was able to find a replacement on ebay in a package of many parts. I believe I see another lever and block in a similar parts kit.

It turns out my pin and spring that is underneath that block is corroded and impeding the movement of the slide stop. I can't get enough force or bite on it with the barrel in the way.

I'm looking to get a barrel press to remove the barrel and get at the pin and spring .

The slide stop lever is so small I think reattaching it could be a challenge.

My P230 is in 9x18 Police and I'd really like to get it fixed!

Good luck on your repair.

It’s been awhile since I ever removed the slide stop assembly, but I know I didn’t have to remove the barrel. Putting it back together was no picnic as I recall…are you saying the corrosion is preventing its removal?

No, not the slide stop or lever. Those are removed. The slide stop pin and spring are located in the frame below the stop. They fit into a little detente on the stop. It keeps the lever and stop in place via spring pressure. I can't get the pin to move and it is impeding the stop from freely moving.

If I could somehow get that pin and it's spring out then I could install the stop and lever. I also have a new pin and spring. the barrel is in the way is all.

I should have been clearer, sorry. The pin and spring should basically fall out of the frame with the stop removed.

Yes . They are really stuck. I just ordered some bent nose pliers so I hope I can grip the pin and remove it.

If that fails I wonder if you have any advice re barrel removal. I've watched a video of it on another fixed barrel(makarov) and it looks difficult.

I have all the parts , and then some, to get this P230 fixed but am running into a lack of experience. Have any advise ? I am unnaturally attached to this little gun.

Thanks

I have never removed a 230 barrel. Before attempting that, I would:

Soak the parts in Kroil
Spray the parts with contact cleaner
Use high pressure air
Put the frame in a sonic cleaner
Use small pick tools
Etc, etc

Hope your bent pliers get the job done!

Been soaking in CLP for awhile now.
Tried a pick
Applied some heat

I'll try some liquid wrench or Kroil
will try some air
I wish I had a sonic cleaner because I think that would help. I may get one and try it.

It is just such a tight window to get any tool into.

Thanks for the suggestions

I recently used Evapo-Rust after SOTAR reccomended it from cleaning up their rusted Colt 601 barrel to remove the bad gas tube that was corroded in place.

Perhaps that might do more to get the rust cleared?
