Can't load 12th round in P226 40 cal.
Just picked up a new to me P226 in 40 cal from CDNN (like new condition). It came with one like new mag and I bought a new one separately from CDNN. Can't load the 12th round in either mag. Is this just newness or could there be an issue? I've previously owned several P226 and P229's in 40 and never had this problem. A couple of other issues 1. when the mags are about half loaded (6 or 7) I feel a resistance that I have to overcome by pushing really hard on the top of the MagLula for all remaining rouonds and 2. with 11 rds in the mag the number 12 witness hole shows full brass.

Somewhat related, a relative was showing me his Beretta 96 a number of years ago, 40 cal. The gun had issues if loading the magazine to full capacity. I don’t recall, I think it was a factory magazine.

As I remember, it seemed to ‘swell’ just a little.

Maybe I’m a wuss, never was bothered with underloading a magazine by a round or 2. Yes, I realize, in certain organized training programs one must load a prescribed number for the course.

It may even come down to a particular magazine.

Update: after loading both mags with 11 rds and letting them sit for a few days they both now will take the 12th rd. Very tight and it takes a strong effort with an Uplula to get them in. They load into the gun also with no problem.

Will the slide strip that top round off the mag and go into battery if you simply release it and let the recoil spring do its thing? My P229-1 had tight mags, and although I could get all 15 in there through proper application of force, the gun wouldn't reliably strip and chamber that top round under it's own power, so I carried it with 14 in the mag until it finally wore in sufficiently that it would do so reliably.

Yes, that's how I loaded it and the slide stripped #12 with no problem.
