I just bought a Sig 228 and 230 (alloy). It was kept in a safe without a dehumidifier and both have a lot of surface rust and some pitting. The owner was a non-gun person and didn't take care of them.

I would like them refinished and gone through. What business would you folks recommend?

thanks

If you're looking for just refinishing then Cummings Custom Refinishing would be a good place to start:

https://www.ccrrefinishing.com/

Or, if you want, you could send it back to Sig for an action package to go along with a factory refinish:

https://www.sigsauer.com/sig-s...ervices-and-upgrades

I've gone both routes and have been pleased with the final result from both companies.

Note: both CCR and Sig offer specials on their services sometime during the year which could save $50-$75.

Edit to add: I looked at the relevant Sig packages and didn't see refinishing specifically stated but my pistol did get a new finish when I sent it in. It's been a while so I don't know if anything has changed so a call to Sig about what you want and what they will do would be good to avoid any assumptions and possible disappointment.

Talk to CCR. They are second to no one on finishes and they can also do the tune up on them as well.

Brad and Mary at CCR have done a lot of work for me over the years, full guns and several parts.
Always quality work.
Since I'm bored right now, I'll give you the full tour. Big Grin

Gen 1 P239 SAS DAK
Before

Complete gun and mags finished in black Cerahide with CPII controls and barrel.

I then sent the slide in for CPII for a 2-tone look.

P229 SAS

Complete gun done in Crehide; don't remember the color, with black controls, barrel, guide rod, and mags
Pics may be confusing; I kept swapping this gun back and forth from DAK to DA/SA Roll Eyes

Took this beater WG P226 in on a trade and sent it CCR.
Black Cerahide frame with CPII slide, barrel, and controls

A few Glock slides and barrels done in CPII

And, my Ruger LCP right after I got it back from the Ruger recall.
Even did the CTC screws, I ended up polishing that barrel.
All these years have gone by, and it's still my most carried handgun.

OP; something to also know about refinishers and the methods some use.

Many strip the anodizing off the aluminum frames when they refinish alloy frames and CCR does not follow this practice.

This topic has been hotly debated in this forum over the years and from many respected smiths and refinishers believe the practice of removing the anodizing is bad in several ways.

One is that anodizing creates a harder surface and stripping it leaves the softer alloy frame surface.

Secondly the amount of tolerance removed by removing the anodizing will leave the parts under spec even after the new finish is applied.

My understanding from following this topic over the years is CCR just lightly etches the anodizing to allow for the new finish to better adhere and still be in acceptable tolerances.

If you were ever wanting some action work done Robert Burke/TheSigArmorer is tops in what he does and has many many types of packaged available to best meet your needs in action work.

He would then send your gun onto the refinisher of your choice.
