It's happened. The credit card companies are quietly slipping in the new Merchant Category Code (MCC) for purchases you make at "guns and ammunition shops." We all knew it would happen after the public backlash last year, pressuring the credit card companies to "not adopt the new code at this time" after public otcry.

Visa has activated use of MCC 5723 – Guns and Ammunition Shops (effective July 1, 2024).

A lot of online sellers do not take checks or money orders.

Visa gift cards bought with cash.

How would that help if the gift cards are processed in the same banking processing systems with regular cards ? Or are they not ?

Buying the gift card with cash means there is no electronic connection between you and the gift card.
