I've examined this vessel thoroughly and there's
something I think you ought to know.

I can't swim.

This came out when I was in 8th grade (1961) and I saw it at least 10 times back then. I can't remember when I last saw it so I just set the DVR so it will be "Saturday Night at the Movies" tomorrow.

I saw it when I was 19. The thing I remember most was that it featured the most improbable sequence of lucky breaks. Those guys should have been dead in the first reel but everything worked like a charm for them.

It had been so long that I had forgotten it. Why did they make David Niven’s rank corporal?!? He spent a good portion of the movie in the face of Peck’s character and had nearly as many lines as Peck.

I think he was a corporal in the book.

In the novel he was a corporal, but being an explosives expert, a vitally needed specialist. The leads' nationalities were reversed in the movie. There were some other minor differences, including two women in the movie but none in the book. Alistair MacLean novels only had a hint of romance between male and female (who were almost always named Mary or some variation) protagonists, never any sex.

Thanks for the memories.

My Dad and I use to watch The Guns of Navarone and The Bridge Over the River Kwai together.

Back before cable and VHS or DVD, we would wait anxiously, when we saw it in the TV Guide.
