S&W Shield if we're talking new.

Shield would be tough to beat at that price.

Palmetto has Taurus 85 revolvers for two hundred, then rebated.

Three hundred is a tough price point, but a cheap tool is not a bargain. Buy good, pay once. Buy cheap, die with a junky handgun that fails in a gunfight.

For a little bit more, the field of options open up considerably.

Dont overlook a good used firearm. I've bought quite a few, used.

Ruger made some descent, albeit not compact, handguns that can be had for a good price, and a used Glock can usually be found for four hundred or so. Recoil gunworks has police tradeins for three fifty, as do aim surplus, and others.

What's it for? I just checked Summit and it looks like he is out of the $279 gen 2 Glock 22's but he does have the gen 3 G22's for $309.

Police trade-in Glock 22s can be found for ~$300 and under. That'd be my first choice.

Next choice would be a used or PD trade-in S&W 3rd Gen. The more common models like a 5906 or 4006 can be occasionally found for under $300, though not as often as ~10 years ago.

To get a decent pistol, he'll have to go used and not 9mm. Also will probably have to go a bit more than $300. If he doesn't mind a small pistol, the Shield or LCP II are options.

Police trade in Glock .40

I wouldn't buy SA Inc, but:

This might fit the bill:

I would avoid the cheapo pistols (Taurus, Hi Point, KelTec, SCCY, et al) unless it's just a range toy.

I’d check out Bersa or Kel-Tec .380’s or 9mm’s

One can easily find a Ruger LCP II or a KAHR CW380 for under $300.
I'd take a Ruger or Kahr over a Keltec.
Although 380 ammo isn't as inexpensive as 9MM.

For $300, or a little more, I'd go for a used Glock.
Not much can go wrong with them..

$309 for a Gen 3 G22 is pretty good.
You can buy a G31 barrel for it and run 357sig for a little variety.

My LGS has new P250's in 40 S&W for $330ish. These have night sights. By the time you add shipping and a transfer fee I guess you would be looking at about $375 or so. I know that is a bit more than your upper limit but still a hell of a deal on a quality handgun.

I'll say it. SAR makes one heck of a nice CZ 75 clone for as little as 239.00. Even takes the low cost CT mags.

Really need more details as to what the pistol is going to be used for.

As mentioned S&W Shield would be a great choice for new if a smaller pistol is wanted.

For a full size pistol the Walther Creed is getting a lot of praise from those that own one or have tried one and usually can be found around $300. Others ones at or near $300 would be the Ruger 9E or the S&W SD9VE.

I agree on used Glocks too as a possibility if he would consider used.
