If anyone is granting Christmas wishes, I would like to debate Ms. Cortez on national TV. She can pick the topic (assuming she can think of one).

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Blesses New Push To Oust Incumbent Democrats In Primaries
Daniel Marans, Huffington Post, 11/18/2018

In a significant escalation of her activisim-driven approach to politics, Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) has urged other progressives to mount primary challenges against some of the more conservative Democratic members of Congress. Ocasio-Cortez delivered the appeal in a phone call on Saturday with some 700 progressive activists organized by Justice Democrats, the group of alumni of Sen. Bernie Sanders' 2016 presidential bid.

"Long story short, I need you to run for office," Ocasio-Cortez began her remarks. "We all need to run at all levels of government, but I really hope that many of you join me here in Congress."

Justice Democrats recruited Ocasio-Cortez to run and played a key role in her upset of Rep. Joe Crowley, a House power-broker, in New York's Democratic primary in June. Ocasio-Cortez then easily won the seat Crowley has held since 1999 in this month's general election. The group is calling its new campaign #OurTime. The initiative asks Justice Democrats' army of activists to help identify Democratic House incumbents who are "demographically and ideologically out-of-touch with their districts," and identify people who might make good primary challengers to them. Joining Ocasio-Cortez in backing the #OurTime initiative is Rep.-elect Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.)

Justice Democrats inclusion of demographic criteria likely means that even some reliably progressive white Democrats who represent more diverse districts won't be safe from such challenges in 2020. The group already showcased that approach with its support for Ayanna Presley, a black Boston city council member who unseated progressive Rep. Michael Capuana (D-Mass.) in a primary in September.

Ocasio-Cortez and leaders of the Justice Democrats way they are driven by a conviction that most current Democratic members of Congress are not up to the task of enacting the radical solutions to address the country's - and the planet's - most pressing problems. The most urgent of these crises, they said, include climate change, widening economic inequality and persistent racial injustice. "There are some good people who want to push for stuff, but they don't have the backup right now to do anything big," said Saikat Chakrabarti, a founder of Justice Democrats who is headed to Washington to serve as Ocasio-Cortez' chief of staff. "So we need new leaders, period. We've got to primary folks. If we don't have folks who are mission-focused, and laser-focused on solving these gigantic problems, we just aren't going to get them solved in time," he added.

It is highly unusual for a member of Congress to support a massive number of primary challenges targeting party colleagues. But over the course of last week's orientation on Capitol Hill for newly elected lawmakers, Ocasio-Cortez demonstrated she has little interest in adhering to traditional congressional norms of comity and deference. On Tuesday, Ocasio-Cortez attended the Sunrise Movement's sit-in at the office of House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and endorsed the group's call for a select committee to address climate change that is comprised solely of members of Congress who have not received fossil fuel industry money. The committee envisioned by Ocasio-Cortez and the group would be charged with drafting a Marshall Plan-style "Green New Deal" to have the U.S. powered entirely by renewable energy in 2035.

The committee idea has gained support from a handful of sitting House Democrats and newly elected ones. But the proposal and Ocasio-Cortez' support for it also elicited some public opposition from veteran Democratic colleagues, many of whom have senior committee posts and claim that a new panel is unnecessary. The investigative news site Sludge subsequently reported that each of the Democrats quoted as criticizing Ocasio-Cortez had received massive donations during the 2018 campaign cycle from fossil-fuel industry and electric utility political action committees and employees.

To Ocasio-Cortez, the negative response to the idea of simply creating a committee tasked with drafting legislation only strengthens the case for more primary challenges to veteran incumbents. The resistance to the proposal "points to the role that fossil-fuel industry contributions play even within the Democratic Party," she said.

In another sign of her independence, Ocasio-Cortez has not yet joined the leaders of the Congressional Progressive Caucus - which she in joining - in endorsing Pelosi's bid for House Speaker. That gives Ocasio-Cortez some leverage in the bid to persuade Pelosi to establish the climate-change committee. The 29-year-old democratic socialist said she is aware she may already face political punishment for her participation in the sit-in at Pelosi's office. "If I made people mad, they could have put me on the dog-walking committee or whatever. They still might. But I knew it was worth it," she said.

In her remarks to the Justice Democrats, Ocasio-Cortez invited activists considering running for office to take a similar leap in the faith that history would be on their side. "Know that they will come after you and that that's OK because at the end of the day, when you are on the right side of that long arc of history that bends towards justice, we will be able to tell our grandchildren that we fought for what's right," she said.

I've claimed in another post that the new Dem caucus will force Pelosi to do some major cat-herding if she has any hope of doing anything at all with the new Dem majority in the House of Representatives. I had no idea we were going to be given this gift. I can't wait to see how much of the next two years the House Dems are going to piss away on poorly-considered, uninformed ego-driven tantrums. Can you imagine how easy it's going to be to wait out their "initiatives"?

Instead of putting comments and memes about the “Hey Macarena” chica in the Trump link, we really should continue with the one that already exists on her.

Here’s a column on the “dumb things” said has already said.

Thank you.
And not only about her, but anyone else who isn’t the President. I get tired of opening that thread only to be faced with a photo of or a comment about someone like the Obamanation, Felonius Pantsuit, or Pelosi.

Ocasio-Cortez compares members of migrant caravan to Jews fleeing Nazi Germany

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez compares migrants to Jews fleeing Holocaust
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the star Democratic congresswoman-elect from New York, compared migrant caravan members who clashed over the weekend with U.S. border agents to Jewish families fleeing Nazi Germany and other targets of genocide.

Ocasio-Cortez, who was elected to represent New York’s 14th Congressional District earlier this month, tweeted over the weekend in support of those attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border. She compared those fleeing violence in Central America to those who escaped Germany, Rwanda and Syria.

“Asking to be considered a refugee & applying for status isn’t a crime. It wasn’t for Jewish families fleeing Germany. It wasn’t for targeted families fleeing Rwanda. It wasn’t for communities fleeing war-torn Syria. And it isn’t for those fleeing violence in Central America,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted late Sunday.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., fired back at the incoming freshman lawmaker on Monday, recommending she study the "differences" between Nazi Germany and the migrant caravan in Mexico.

"I recommend she take a tour of the Holocaust Museum in DC. Might help her better understand the differences between the Holocaust and the caravan in Tijuana," Graham tweeted.

Over the weekend, hundreds of migrants from the Central American caravan rushed the border at the port of entry in San Ysidro, Calif.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said some demonstrators “attempted to illegally enter the U.S. through both the northbound and southbound vehicle lanes at the port of entry itself. Those persons were stopped and turned back to Mexico.”

U.S. border agents shot several rounds of tear gas after some migrants attempted to penetrate various points along the border and threw what appeared to be rocks at U.S. authorities.

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said in a statement that some migrants "attempted to breach legacy fence infrastructure along the border and sought to harm CBP personnel by throwing projectiles at them.

"As I have continually stated, DHS will not tolerate this type of lawlessness and will not hesitate to shut down ports of entry for security and public safety reasons," Nielsen said. "We will also seek to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law anyone who destroys federal property, endangers our frontline operators, or violates our nation’s sovereignty."

The Mexican Interior Ministry said Sunday afternoon it would immediately deport the migrants who tried to "violently" breach the border. The Mexican government described Sunday's events as "acts of provocation" that were "far from helpful" for the migrants' objectives.

President Trump told Mexico early Monday that migrants allegedly threatening to storm the U.S. would be sent “back to their countries.”

“Mexico should move the flag waving Migrants, many of whom are stone cold criminals, back to their countries,” Trump tweeted. “Do it by plane, do it by bus, do it anyway you want, but they are NOT coming into the U.S.A. We will close the Border permanently if need be. Congress, fund the WALL!” Trump tweeted Monday morning.

The Trump administration has said asylum claims from members of a series of caravans originating in Central America must be processed outside the U.S., and that all those entering illegally will be denied. A federal judge has at least temporarily ruled against the policy, but the administration has taken steps to harden the border.

As of Monday morning, about 50 migrants had been detained after illegally crossing the border. The exact number of those apprehended is expected to be made public later Monday, a senior Department of Homeland Security official told Fox News.

In Mexico, Tijuana’s municipal government announced it arrested more than three-dozen migrants for disturbing the peace and other charges related to the crossing attempt.

Aides Force Ocasio-Cortez To Watch Entire Run Of 'Schoolhouse Rock!'

WASHINGTON, D.C.—As Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez continued to prepare to take office as an actual congresswoman that people in the United States apparently voted for of their own volition, her aides forced her to sit down and watch the entire run of Schoolhouse Rock!, a popular education program that teaches youngsters rudimentary ideas on topics ranging from economics to politics.

After Ocasio-Cortez entered her office Tuesday, aides gently guided her to a special room they'd prepared with every season of Schoolhouse Rock! prepped and ready to go.

The woman furrowed her brow and nodded slowly as the cartoon characters talked about basic concepts like the three chambers of government, the process of a bill becoming law, and how money works. "I thought Bill was the president a while ago?" she said confusedly, causing an assistant to pause the show and slowly explain what a congressional bill is.

"See how the singing piece of paper is trying to become a law?" the aide said amicably. "That's kind of how it works, in a broad sense."

"Ohhh!" she said as realization dawned on her. "But how do they teach the papers to sing? Wait—don't tell me—socialism?" The aide then sighed and rewound the tape to the beginning a third time.

At publishing time, Ocasio-Cortez had asked to take a break during the episode on basic economics.

I have to think someone of her age is somewhat social-media savvy. If she's taken her profiles down since she became famous, she at least has to do a lot of reading or lurking. People of her generation love to read validation of their beliefs and actions via social media. So I would love to know what she thinks of so many people believing her to be a complete idiot. I know we'll never know, but I wonder about it.

But dumb people tend to not know or believe they're dumb. Some people think they get smarter with age. Others, the older they get, the more they realize how little they know. A dummy like her is not going to be moved to introspection, deeper thinking or greater learning by seeing how dumb others think she is. But I'd still like to know her true inner reaction to it. It is kind of funny when someone is just smart enough to know they've been exposed or schooled by others.
