Changed the bracelet to a band for the first time. Hard to see the detail but it’s alligator.

I figured as much, and if I had to put money on it, I would guess it was me getting on it too hard setting the minute hand.

The hand set is off eBay, so new, but definitely not Seiko made! Looks like exactly the same size and shape for the holes as the hands that came off though.

It’s tough judging just how much pressure to use setting the hands on, and doesn’t help that everything is so very, very TINY. This is definitely giving my hand eye coordination and patience a workout!

I have been digging around and the Heimdallr watches caught my eye. I found some of the same watches under brands like Tactical Frog, Steel Dive, Addies Dive and Watchdives. They are all very similar in specs. All made in China, probably where Islanders are made too

Movement: Japan NH35 automatic, 41 hours of energy storage.
Case material: 316L stainless steel
Case back: 316L stainless steel
Bezel: 120 clicks unidirect rotational ceramic bezel
Watch mirror: sapphire crystal with AR coating.
Water resistance: 300m / 30 ATM
Luminous: Swiss C3 green and BGW9 blue super luminous for black/blue watch.
Swiss C3 green and BGW9 blue and orange super luminous for vintage orange watch
Crown: Screwdown Crown
Case back: Screwback Case

I pulled the trigger on this and I really like it, the lume is stupid and I could still see it theis morning. It took about two weeks to get here

These are a love hate thing with me, I have 2 Steel Dive watches, The Capt Willard and the same one you have which still had Marine Master on the dial. Hate that they are made in China, but they are great watches, My Marine Master Tuna keeps better time than some of the way more expensive watches I have, they are a great quality for the money.

The blue dial larger version is the one I ended up choosing.

Congrats Stickman!!! It's a beautiful watch with a great movement!

Yesterday I made the decision to take the bracelet off of my Explorer II Polar and replace it with a leather strap from The Strapsmith. I had this on another watch previously and found it to be very comfortable. The Rolex bracelet was somewhat irritating to my wrist and after swapping it out for the strap I find that it's not only more pleasant to wear, I like the "explorer" looks the combination projects.

I guess I'm just prone to go with "Strap Monsters", as I have an appointment this afternoon and may be indulging with a bit of horse trading for a Tudor, myself. You can probably figure out what I have in mind! Wink

Well, after a “challenging” couple days of on and off messing around, I finished my first watch…

Took forever for everything to arrive, turns out literally everything you need to make these comes from the other end of the planet. But the boat from china got here eventually, and then the struggle began. After breaking down and admitting my eyes are not up to it and getting a large lighted magnifier, I got it done.

Seiko NH36 day date movement, aftermarket Tuna style case in stainless steel, the dial was an ebay find, as were the hands.

Definitely a chunky boy!

You know you have a watch on with this one, but it’s actually not really uncomfortable to wear. Kind of makes me want to try one of the titanium versions of this case, but that’s going to have to wait a bit.

Well, next up will be something a little more unusual…

Found this and added it to the order of miscellaneous parts.

Just need to decide on which dial.

I was settled on the plain black until I saw them in person, now I am leaning more towards the steel finish. It’s not exactly going to be a subtle watch anyway, might as well go for it!

My initial thought was the black dial, but the steel would look sharp in there.

Aaaaaannnnnnd…. Looks like it will be neither! Not sure what they are sized for, but definitely NOT this case.

So, it’s getting a default plain black Seiko dial for now, and I’ll order a steel version sized right later. Maybe the plain black look will grow on me.

Thanks! It’s been fun and frustrating in about equal amounts, but I think it just might get easier the more you mess with it.

It’s just Uber finicky getting hands set, and there’s just no such thing as “too clean” when it comes to case interiors…

Not really “done” yet, since I really really need to get a better dial, but I went ahead and buttoned it up for now.

Setting the hands went WAY better this time around. Don’t ask about cutting the crown stem to proper length… More of a “process”, but after about twenty cut and files, got it right. Then realized I have no locktight to set the crown with.

I will come back to this one after I find the right dial. Still, just as is,mit came out pretty cool looking. Definitely not subtle!
