A farewell to the 1965 Hamilton Supercompressor in honor of her parting in this mornings post. Off to a gentlemen in NY.
Next on the block..? Who should go next..? Zenith El Primero (in-house-movt, column-wheel-chrono) or the new Rolex Explorer (just two months old!)? Hmmm...

Does anyone have a picture of a 41mm watch on a wrist? If I'm right it would be 1 5/8?
I've got a small wrist....and I think I found my grail watch.....

Jeff, I have a 6.5" wrist and IMO 41 is on the edge. It can work, or can be (look and feel) totally inappropriate. What size is your wrist, and what is the model of the watch?
There are other factors besides diameter. Two important ones are:
Bezel: A wide bezel makes the dial smaller on a given watch. This it looks ok, even with a larger size. low/no bezel and a big dial can make a 38mm wear like a 40 or 41.
Lug Length: Long lugs can make a smaller watch (and certainly a larger watch) wear VERY big on a smaller wrist. I like to have the strap (or bracelet) lay somewhat in line with the case for a tiny bit and then wrap around the wrist. If you have long lugs, the strap (or bracelet) tends to "drop" right off the cliff (so to speak). So what you have is a watch case glued to your wrist with no discernable wrap of the other visual component of a watch. It looks terrible to me.
Hope that helps. I'm on the borderline with 6.5" wrist. If you've for a 6.75 or 7" wrist, I'd imagine most any 41 would be ok. Again, I'd love to hear what it is.
Cheers! ---- Happy Easter!

Jeff,
My wrist is somewhere between 6.75" & 7.0". The Marathon SAR pictured at the top is 41mm in diameter & 48mm in case length.
Below that is a Maratac SR-1, 46.2mm diameter & approximately 52mm overall case length. Not the best angle to judge fit, but it's comfortable to wear & doesn't feel or appear ridiculously oversized to me, but it's considerably larger than the SAR.
What is your grail watch?

Jeff - you don't mention how big your wrist is, but you might be surprised. I'm not a huge guy, only 5'10" and "normal" frame but my wrist is 7.375". It was only after I found the watch I really wanted that I started to even consider this, but fortunately it looks fine (IMHO anyway) on my wrist. The diameter of this is 42mm, and it's a pretty chunky movement making the case around 14-15mm high I think.
As r0gue pointed out the shape of the case and especially the lugs makes a huge difference. When I was able to finally try on this watch, and see the flow and size of the lugs, I knew my concerns were unfounded. This particular watch is also a relatively thin bezel, so it actually wears like an even bigger watch, without being huge.
If you've not tried on the grail watch yet find one and do so. If not in a store, check out the brand specific forums and see if someone nearby to your glorious neck of the woods happens to have one. In my experience, most of the watch guys are as embracing of the hobby, and each other, as the people here.
Edit - there oughta be a rule you can't tease us without telling what you're lusting for!
Edit-edit. For example, when I was looking at this watch I would run across pics from people who are either using some crazy fisheye lense or have teeny preemie arms. Reinforcing the need to find one yourself. Exhibit 1 below. What in the world IS that?? Makes it look like a rapper necklace!

An OUTSTANDING watch, one I've come so very close to buying probably 4 times now. Passed due to conflicting needs, not the watch!

Thanks Rogue, I think I'm ok as well.
I've got a couple of Ball watches that I'll never wear once I get this one. Any suggestions where to sell them?

I certainly would consider trading them on the IWC, or retailing them here. Lots a WIS on SF. You could also try Timezone or Watchuseek. Use watchrecon.com to get market (asking) prices.

Here is the actual watch. I decided to pull the trigger.
This Forum is really hard on one's wallet.
I've wanted one for 15 years. An old business partner had one and I've wanted one ever since.
David Troung is the best. I feel very lucky to have met David and his wonderful family. He has been so good to my family over the years in many ways.
When my oldest son moved to LA David and his family 'adopted' him and kept an eye out for him. They became friends and included him in family events.
'Salt of the Earth' describes David.

Here is mine courtesy of our very own David Troung. Not a big watch collector, have not worn any in a while and wanted to start again.

I could go for a pilot's watch and the IWC is a nice one.
