A revival of the Watch thread
It’s an older model I believe. I haven’t found many that look like it.

I’m really liking this little Seiko 5 Automatic.

Sharp looking Citizen. Italy, you say? Is that particular model not available here?

There are many vintage watches that were not marketed here.
There's a couple of Rados I want.
It's rumored I might be in Israel soon and hunt a few things in the market while there...

Ah, I see. Had a look at the Rado website. Beautiful watches!
Enjoy your trip, I hope you find what you're looking for.

Received my Sea-Dweller bracelet back today after having it serviced by Michael Young at Classic Watch Repair in Hong Kong.

I believe he did an amazing job removing ~20 years of wear and stretch.

Anyone familiar with a Mallard watch?

My local watch repair guy has a small display case of new watches. I noticed one I really like. It's a Mallard.

I remarked I'd never heard of Mallard and his response was that one of the big companies that sells watch parts and components had decided, some years ago, to assemble parts and market their own brand, Mallard Watches. He also said they've recently decided to get out of watch manufacturing and just continue selling parts and components.

Well, as you can imagine, this scared me off, but he replied that, in his opinion, they're quite good watches, and any and all parts are now and will be available in the future for any needed repairs, and that this is a really good Swiss movement, etc etc blah blah.

His asking price was $250-ish, so it's not a big deal if it breaks.

He's actually a darn good local independent who repairs not only watches but also antique clocks of all types, so I do have some faith in him.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: A Google search indicates that may be the Jules Borel Company.

Yes, Mallard is/was Jules Borel's inhouse brand. I haven't seen one personally, but I've bought watch tools and parts from them many times over the years and have found them to be quality and customer-service conscious.

He rebuilds them. He trues the shape of the links and installs new pins. There is a description on his website. The amount of work he does for the price is amazing.

That Smith's is pretty.

Yep, and a fraction of the cost of a new bracelet. He also used what was described as a welding technique to correct a deep wear groove in one of the links - now you can’t tell it was ever damaged.

I got a beater Citizen Automatic from the UK to add to my growing collection. This one was made in May of 1991.
