Modifying my dream bike (BMW M1000RR)
This one has been pretty exciting. Over the past year or so I've sold off a decent amount of my gun collection (don't worry there's still plenty left) to fund another hobby of mine, motorcycles. I pulled the trigger on my dream bike a few months ago and have been ordering and installing parts since. The motorcycle is a 2024 BMW M1000RR (the homologation of the WSBK race bike). There are only a 100 or so of these bikes in the US between the 23 and 24 model years combined. Carbon everything including the wheels. This thing is absolutely incredible. Scary fast. 1000CC Inline 4 motor pushing over 200hp in a bike that weighs around 430 pounds. On top of that, it's been tuned with induction mods and a full Akrapovic titanium race exhaust. Added some more carbon from Germany including a belly pan extension and frame covers. This week I had full Ohlins suspension installed and got it all set up along with some new Pirelli tires that are a smidge more street oriented compared to the stock Michelins. If you can't tell, I dig it Big Grin

All stock the day it came home:

All torn apart:

End Result:

I'd be way too tempted to use all the throttle on something like that.
Glad most of my 2-wheel time has been on things harder to get in as much trouble on.

I made it 3 days before I got a ticket

A track day at COTA might help you scratch the itch.

That is pretty cool and looks fast just sitting there.

If I may ask, what are the carbon fiber covers on the lower half of the front tires for?

That front wheel is very Tron\Bladerunner.

Aero, makes it more slippery in theory. I don't think it actually does that much besides look cool but the bike as a whole is pretty wild how it cuts through the air. Very different from every other sport bike Ive ridden.

I had a 2015 S1000R and loved it. I finally decided it was just too tempting to get crazy on it and I needed something more civilized. I don't think I ever once got on that bike and didn't take it into triple digit speed. I mean every single time. Never got a ticket either. I traded it in for a 2020 R1250GS in June, 2023, thinking that bike would make me behave better. Boy, was I wrong. And I have gotten a ticket on it. I may go back to an SKR in the future though. It's a lot of bike for the money.

That is such a good looking motorcycle!!! Congrats!

There are rumors that BMW is seriously considering entering Grand Prix motorcycle racing (MotoGP). Personally, I hope the rumors end up being true. The Japanese manufacturers are struggling against Ducati right now. It would be interesting to see BMW begin battle it out at the top level of motorcycle racing. Suzuki managed to get competitive and win a title in only a handful of years. I could see BMW doing something similar.

Finally got my carbon tail pieces in from Germany and installed. Also had a new seat cover put on as well as some of the factory foam cut out and replaced with memory foam. Once it compresses it's still plenty stiff but much more comfortable. The headers have colored up nicely. Only things left are a new Brembo master cylinder and calipers. The Nissins just aren't doing it for me. Much prefer the bite/feel of the Brembo stuff. Really pleased with it, incredible machine!
