Prepared for the Worst, Providing the Best![]() |
The Big Boy 4014 is one a cross-country tour and came through our county both coming and going. I missed it on the way east because I had to work, but I was off today when it was passing through one the way back. My kids wanted to see it, so we drove down to the railroad crossing in Sydney this morning and watched it go through. Impressive to see it under power...that thing can move! After it went through I drove the family home, had some lunch, and decided I wanted to go see it again. It had a scheduled stop a little over an hour west of here in Knox, so I jumped on the bike ad rode over there. I'm not really familiar with the town, but I figured I'd just find the railroad tracks and follow them. It worked. I found the back of the train stopped in the middle of town, so I parked the bike and ran along the length of the train through side streets and yards until I got to the front...just in time to have him blast the whistle and start moving! Knox was a lot more crowded than Sydney, but it was an excuse to ride the bike (fun, even though it was mostly straight roads and over 90 degrees out) and neat to see the train start from a stop in addition to just blasting through. ----------------------------------------------------------- Any comments made by this poster are my own and do not reflect the views or opinions of my employer.

Lots of bikes out today, presumably doing the same thing I was. As is typical around here, mostly cruisers, but I did see this one sweet boxer GS. ----------------------------------------------------------- Any comments made by this poster are my own and do not reflect the views or opinions of my employer.
