I love this Sig. I bought it at an estate sale over 10 years ago. Never had a jam, misfire, hangup nothing. Any 45 ACP ammo I feed it..it loves. I'd like to know more about it. It states Made in Germany. But I suspect that's just the parts and it was assembled in Virginia. I called Sig and it's so old its not in their data base. How do I track down info on this gun ???

Thank You,

JPeace

Greetings fro the Granite State. Welcome Aboard! Cool

Regarding your German P220, the Serial # you posted is not correct. There should be six numerical digits following the 'G' prefix. There's a bunch of info in the Serial# List thread you may be interested in. It can be found in the SIG Pistols sub-forum, or you can link to it right here --> https://sigforum.com/eve/forum...0601935/m/1810019194 Wink

I do see in my intial posting that there are 8 digits. Operator error... forgive the newbie to this site. Must have fired off the first posting without proofing very well.

Thank You,

Cool.

Going by the serial, it is in range to be manufactured in 1986. P220 serials will have a prefix of G (most) or H (rare).

If your P220 had been altered using a caliber exchange kit from Sig, the slide won't have a serial stamped on the side.

Some German conversion kits did come serialized, but they rarely had a suffix after the six numbers that was a letter (usually a D).

Welcome to the forum!

Thank you for the info and research. I have had this gun for 10 years. 45 ACP. Never a problem and I can take the hair off a a fly's butt at 10 yards. Further distance I can wear out some steal targets. What a great gun. I field striped it down and ther are no numbers inside, but there are som weird symbols that I can't understand what they mean.

Thank You,

JPeace

Just FYI - In case you're interested, or care to do so, if you edit your original post (click on 'edit message'), you can edit the title of the thread as well, so as to reflect the correct S/N for your P220.. Wink

Welcome aboard. Your pistol is a 1986 W. German P220-1 imported by SigArms who at the time were located in Tysons Corner, VA. The "weird symbols" you reference are German proof marks. The "beetle bug is the proof stamp of the W. German Kiel Proof House while the Eagle/N stamp is the nitro (smokeless powder) proof. Most likely, the proof date code on your pistol is "JG" for... (more)

Thank You,

JPeace
