I’m looking to branch out and try some plated or jacketed bullets in .40 I’ve been running Blue Bullets and they’ve been good but looking at options. I picked up some 180gr JHP from Precision Delta and they seem good but randomly available. They feed and run in the gun but I need to paper and chrono them. My gun doesn’t like the sharper shouldered flat points unless it’s a long taper, RNFP work well. I mainly like the plated or jacketed as they run better and cleaner on my press and seem to chamber a tad easier. Neither is a deal breaker as I’ve ran thousands on thousands of Blues, BBI’s. The Blues are plenty accurate as well. Do not send me to a heaven where there are no dogs. Step Up or Stand Aside: Support the Troops ! Expectations are premeditated disappointments.

Tried plated, they sucked with the copper plating my barrels, went with Zero bullets till I started casting and coating, like them the best in all my handguns 180 worked best in 40. I also found recoil went down with coated and I also had to back off a few flakes because velocity went up to a snappy bit. Universal was best powder for me in 40 S/W

Have loaded thousands of 155gr and 165gr FMJ and CMJ .40 bullets from Montana Gold Bullet over the years.

I usually loaded 165 grain plated with H Universal powder, worked fine. These were Berrys or Rainier. I was given a bunch of factory 40 ammo, so haven’t loaded any in years.

I prefer to use Extreme 165 grain plated bullets. I carry with Speer Gold Dots rated at 1165 fps. and have found that Longshot will allow me to build practice loads that duplicate the Speer load. BTW, whose who consider the 40 S&W as "Short and Weak" may want to rethink that attitude. Because these loads are far from weak and the antique Gold Dot is still a distinctly effective design. I've stopped counting.

Precision Delta in MS makes some great bullets and they do not charge for shipping. The owners are competitive shooters so they know what shooters want in a bullet. Good down to earth folks. https://www.precisiondelta.com/

I used to use Precision Bullets (the black bullet) made here in TX. But he closed up shop. So I’ve been using the blue bullet instead. My FIL a master shooter in USPSA, uses Montana gold in 9, 38SuperComp,and 45ACP. "Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor.” Robert A. I carry with a 165 grain Speer Gold dot load that clocks at 1165 FPS and my practice loads are Extreme or Berry's 165 grain plated RN bullets loaded to that same velocity. I will also note that those who have issues with copper jacketing fouling their barrels that there is a simple solution. Purchase an extra Crimp die for that RCBS set you are using and pull the bullet seating stem so it's a crimp only die. I have tested 3 versus 4 die setups for loading jacketed bullets and every single time that Seating and Crimping were combined into a single operation the result was a ring of copper shaved from the jacketing in front of the case rim. Cause for that is simple, that bullet is being pushed into the case at the same time that the cases is crimped down. Those who don't believe this get out a 20X power magnifying loupe and LOOK. I use 4 die setups for every single pistol caliber I load because it keeps my barrels from being fouled with copper. I've stopped counting.
