My 550B has a great deal of built ammo and still going strong, I wish I was! I have decided to upgrade to the 1100 and possibly motorize it as well. I load mainly 5.56 and now 9mm. Suggestions, recommendations?

I’m still using my 550 Grumpy. I just don’t shoot often enough to justify upgrading. I do love that 550 though. Not much to complain about. Are you going to dedicate your 550 to tasks you don’t want to change the 1100 out for? Such as small runs? Also, how long have you been using your 550?

I upgraded from a 550 to a 750. It was well worth it. If you will only be focused on a couple of calibers, the 1100 could be worth it, too. The hardware to load an additional caliber for that setup ain't cheap. ________________________________________ -- Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I started with a 550 about 21 years ago. Sold it after one year and purchased a 650 that I still own today, along with a second 650 still NIB that I purchased soon after Dillon launched the 750 and dealers had reduced their 650 press pricing to $350 to make room for the 750’s. Why the second machine - because I LOVE the 650 design and have a ton of accessories for that model. We also own two - RL1100 machines. My son has one that he reloads on and I have one that is set up to run my 9mm rounds I shoot in competition. I bought it to automate so that I could process brass and also load high volumes of 9mm ammo. I also have a DA3000 sitting in their boxes (one system ships in two boxes) unopened because we sold our home and moved to a new town to be closer to our grandkids. I went from a 24x40 heated/cooled shop to NOTHING. House we purchased is 1000 feet smaller and no shop or shed. One of these days I will get the machines back out and reload again - good news is, before I packed up the machines, I loaded up enough 9mm ammo to feed my need for at least 12 months. The RL1100 is a GREAT machine once you get it dialed in and can spit out lots of ammo, fast. I want a Dillon Bullet Feeder so bad but why buy one when the machines are packed away. To FEV’s comment above, he is 100% correct that the 650/750 design is a lot less expensive to set up for multiple calibers vs. the RL1100. KEEP IN MIND THE FOLLOWING - Dillon usually implements their annual price increases every JANUARY (I learned this the hard way when I purchased the second RL1100) so if you can purchase your press and accessories in December you could save as much as 10% vs. waiting until January (their price increases over the past years has ranged from 4.5% to 10%).
