Prepared for the Worst, Providing the Best |
So I bought a couple thousand blemished 55gr .224 FMJ projectiles from a reputable online retailer a while back. I've had good success with blem projectiles in the past, but these were not good. The jackets were separating and making 2 holes in the target, out of several different rifles with different twist rates. I'm not going to out the company publicly because they were awesome to deal with and gave me a full refund...but they didn't want the bullets back and how I have almost 2000 projectiles that I don't know what to do with. Clearly I can't load them to service velocities as they are. I could melt them down for the lead, but that seems like a waste, and more trouble than it's worth picking out all those jackets for that tiny amount of lead in a 55gr bullet. I do have a swaging press that I "inherited" that I've never used....any body know enough about bullet swaging to know if I could maybe re-swage them to get them to hold together? Or maybe load them up as subsonic loads? I'm at a loss. If anybody has any suggestions, I'm all ears.

What about using them for weights to hold down the holiday balloons in the front yard. Seems that is all what they are good for if they are not capable for loading. Well, I was hoping somebody would come up with a suggestion for how they could be loaded and shot, even if it wasn't in the manner that I originally intended.

http://www.corbins.com/ Lot of swaging info there. If you do not know what went wrong with the old ones, not sure the cost is worth the effort.

I suppose you could use them for blind baking a pie crust. You put the crust in the pie plate, line it with foil, then fill it with some kind of small weights to hold it all own. Partially, or sometimes fully, bake the crust, then remove the foil and weights and procede to finish the pie. Some people use the ceramic pie weights sold for this purpose, but they are kind of pricey for occasional use. The bullets would never touch the crust, so no chance of lead contamination. Or you could sell or give them to someone who just wants to make blasting ammo.
