apf383What are some of your favorite .45 ACP loads?
Over the last few weeks I’ve loaded up 1500 or so of the following:
230gr fmj Precision Delta projectile over
5.8gr. Of Unique with Rem primers.
I don’t have a chrono as I’m only an occasional club shooter and just grab my recipes out of a Hornady Manual. Round is supposed to roughly mimmic the govt. 800 or so fps round. It cycles my autos just fine and I don’t really care about pf. although I’m certain it’s still major.

RileyBump.
I’ve tuned the gun and now get almost 100% function with the 200gr SWC. Any issue now seems to be case rim issues. The RN style feed 100%, I just like the SWC holes in the targets. Haha.
Some load testing today at 58* and 5,000’ altitude. Weights are as ordered not measured. Velocity measured at V0 on LabRadar. Average of 10 shots from a 5” 1911. Goal is 170pf.
Brass Monkey 230gr RN.

Missouri Bullet Co. 200gr IDP #4

A little dirty with the lighter bullets and much higher Ed and Sd. Better burn and smaller spread with the heavier Bullet.
I’ll probably stick with the Odd Ball in the future or the IDP #4. Eventually I’ll try Sport Pistol as well and maybe CFE-P but I’m looking for gamer loads.

techie52Hi all, my first post here.
I have fired thousands of this load:
200 gr lead or coated SWC
4.9 gr Clays
WLP
COL 1.250-1.255
This makes 900 fps, which I have read was JMB's original load for the .45 ACP. It is a standard pressure load according to Layne Simpson in Handloader, though it is well above the maximum of 4.3 grains listed by Hodgdon. Very clean and accurate in my pistols. These days I am likelier to load 4.0 to 4.5 grains, as I don't need a 180 power factor.
Of course, use at your own risk, as it is above the published maximum.

@Riley, you might consider a longer COL. I had problems feeding SWC's until I started loading at 1.255 or so. Max COL is 1.271, and that is what Midway used with their no longer available SWC for testing in the out of print LoadMAP for .45 ACP.
