I tried Clays as internet lore suggested it does everything better than Unique. It didn't for me. These days its getting to the point where you adapt to the powders available instead of continuing with what you used to like. Possibly a reason for raised prices and limited availability of consumer propellants is focus on military sales, if so, it may not get better any time soon unless some new manufacturers get going quickly.

I love Unique and have good loads for nearly everything I load for. I agree that it doesn't meter as well as a finer powder would, but I find that it's not enough of a difference to worry about. Works great for me and my 550.

IIR Blue Dot wasn't my favorite for magnum revolvers back in the day. Big flakes were hard to meter well, dirty burn, that's about all I recall. I'd hazard to guess it's prob been more or less obsoleted unless it's still being produced.

The Clays series of powder was manufactured in Canada as well. My memory is vague, but a fire (I think) shut down ADI (DOWN UNDER) and Hodgdon arranged for the Clays series to be made in Canada. No Clays series powder has been available since COVID (I think).

If Universal Clays is ever offered again, I would advise everyone to stock up as it is really a useful powder.

As to a powder I don't like...the whole IMR series of stick powders.

BrBa, have you tried it in 10mm? Some of my friends like it with 165gn & 180gn bullets. Seems to meter well.

No, I don't own a 10mm. I've mostly tried it in .357 Mag. I'll give it another trt in 9mm near max. puished loads..when I get around to it. It does meter very well.

Just FYI in another post several people liked AA-7 in .357 Sig. I have no experience with it in this caliber.

I suspect it's one of those powders that needs a small window between starting and max. loads, and also might benefit from a magnum primer.
