I have been hearing about Glock Bulge. A friend who reloads a LOT of 9mm swears by the Lee "Bulge Buster" die and has offered to give me a single stage press to host a Bulge Buster if I get one, but the Amazon page that sells the Bulge buster states
quote:
Works with these rimless cases:  380 ACP, 10mm, 40 S&W, 41 AE, 45 ACP, 45 GAP, and 45 Win Mag. NOTE:  9mm cases are not able to be used in the Bulge Buster because it has a slightly tapered case and the rim is not completely flush with the case.
Can any of y'all offer any more information on this topic?

Some people report success, others report failure. Lee (the seller of the Bulge Buster) specifically states that the Bulge Buster is not recommended for 9mm. I'll probably pass on this.

Maybe the thing to do is run the range brass through a case gauge before reloading and just discard any that are "sticky" due to the bulge.

The 9MM case tapers from .391 at the base right before the extraction groove down to .380 at the case mouth…for the LEE Bulge Buster to work properly it should be used on a case that is the same diameter all the way…also the rim has a diameter of .394. The Dillon 9MM sizing die seems to resize brass to a “tighter” dimension than my old LEE Carbide Dies…plus it “kicks” the spent primer out of the case with a vengeance Wink Wink Wink

Archaeologists in the distant future will be examining spent primers that have been ejected from my Dillon press at a high rage of velocity.

Buying a quality aftermarket barrel for the Glock will eliminate any bulged cases unless the charges are insanely hot.

When I was hand loading for my Gen 4 G17 and G43x with stock barrels, as long as I kept the charges reasonable, I didn’t see the dreaded bulge.

My reloads go into brass that I pick up at the range at the gun club where I shoot. My brass, and other shooters' brass. I have not yet obeyed this mandate, so I have no use for a Glock barrel. Razz

Except for one P7, all my handguns gave actual hammers. None of that striker stuff. Smile

9mm is indeed tapered, and even with straight-wall cases my concern with the bulge buster concept is that you're dealing with brass that has been heavily stressed right above the case head, an area where a failure is likely to have catastrophic consequences. IMO it's just not worth the risk, especially for 9mm, which is available for free as range pickup pretty much everywhere. When I find bulged cases, they go straight in the scrap bucket.

Glock bulge is real. However, I have not noticed on 9mm fired in a Glock. However, in a .40 cal Glock. Oh, it’s there.

I’ve loaded nothing but range brass for many thousands of rounds, much of it fired from Glocks. Very rarely do they not pass my case gauge, and those pass the barrel test. Usually if I get an issue, it’s with crappy foreign brass, stepped cases or damaged case rims. I’ve found some trashed brass from 9 Major reloads.

Knock on wood, I can’t remember any ammo related failures. I did switch to a EGW undersize sizing die, but I’m not sure it’s needed.

I do find some bulge issues with 40 S&W brass but not often. I do believe the EGW die helps for .40 S&W.

Rollsizer is a machine designed to eliminate/remove all brass related issues like the Glock Bulge. Expensive but their machines WORK…..

I use the Lee bulge buster for 9mm.
Use a 9mm mak crimp die then resize using the regular 9mm sizing die.

Works great!

I use the Lee bulge buster on 9mm and it does help. I then run the brass through the sizing die on the single stage. Only then do I load it on the Lee progressive press. Lube helps a lot!

Badly bulged brass is rare and does get discarded.

The raw range un-sized brass does not run the same distance into the sizing die every time on the progressive press, especially if not debulged. Which means the bullet is not seated the same OAL on whichever round is in the bullet seating station of the press.

Debulging and then sizing before going on the progressive improves round to round consistency.
