Can anyone tell me if Michigan has a state defined "no concealed carry on these premises" sign ? I found one issued by the MI Liquor Control Commission. I guess anyone could use it. If anyone knows of a general wide use sign can you direct me to an image ? * * * * * * * High capacity is not an acceptable substitute for good marksmanship.

Signs do no have the force of law. However, you can be asked to leave and acknowledging that you knew a sign existed may be used as constructive notice and go straight to a trespass charge. Regardless, why would anyone want to give business to a company that doesn't want law abiding citizens on their premises? __________________________ Writing the next chapter that I've been looking forward to.

Thanks for the info. I need to take a short trip to Grand Rapids for a couple days and started looking at the laws. In KY the sign is prescribed by the state and is the only one that is legitimate. In Ohio I've seen all kinds of signs posted in all areas around the entry points. In KY, there are very few signs posted, so it is easy to know where to frequent and where not to. If I can avoid it I never deal with the posted business locations. I found the handgun laws site which gave me a great oversight. * * * * * * * High capacity is not an acceptable substitute for good marksmanship.

Grand Rapids for the most part is conservative and pro gun. Do know your CPL is only good for pistols. Auto knives are legal. Double edged blades, or anything that might be taken as a "dagger" is a big no go. Impact weapons are verbotten. Pepper spray is GTG. __________________________ Writing the next chapter that I've been looking forward to.

Thanks for the reminder. In KY we have a CDW - concealed deadly weapon - which covers everything. I've gotten used to leaving some things behind when I travel into Ohio. * * * * * * * High capacity is not an acceptable substitute for good marksmanship.

I may be joining this thread a little late, but here is the Michigan list of places were you SHALL NOT carry your concealed pistol: Individuals licensed to carry a concealed pistol by Michigan or another state are prohibited from carrying a concealed pistol or a portable device that uses electro-muscular disruption technology on the following premises: Please refer to MCL 28.425o for the complete statutory text 1. Schools or school property but may carry while in a vehicle on school property while dropping off or picking up if a parent or legal guardian 2. Public or private day care center, public or private child caring agency, or public or private child placing agency. 3. Sports arena or stadium 4. A tavern where the primary source of income is the sale of alcoholic liquor by the glass consumed on the premises 5. Any property or facility owned or operated by a church, synagogue, mosque, temple, or other place of worship, unless the presiding official or officials allow concealed weapons 6. An entertainment facility that the individual knows or should know has a seating capacity of 2,500 or more 7. A hospital 8. A dormitory or classroom of a community college, college, or university “Premises” does not include the parking areas of the places listed above. 9. A Casino And, you are encouraged to have a blood alcohol level of 0.0 when carrying concealed. Enjoy your visit to west Michigan. Best regards, Mark in Michigan

The only place I see where a sign is mentioned in the Michigan statutes references the liquor control sign you have found. It is here in subsection D https://www.legislature.mi.gov...jectName=mcl-28-425o That being said, if a private property owner, even one operating a business, communicates in any way you're not welcome there carrying a weapon, you could running afoul of the Michigan statute regarding trespass. https://www.legislature.mi.gov...jectName=mcl-750-552 I do let a business owner know I'm not going to turn over coin to them while they're not ensuring their patrons' safety and ignoring their right to self-defense by posting ban signs. It's basically an open invitation to criminals who don't bother reading signs to victimize compliant folks. A lot of those felons have never bothered to read. That's why they're feeding off good people. The manager will go on about "corporate policy" so get his or her name and contact the corporation. Private owners will go on about how their "insurance company" requires it of them. I hope they get sued for being crime magnets.
