I unfortunately got too big for my previous belt, but needed to stay within a budget, so I bought one of these. I don't believe it is double-layered, but the single ¼" inch thickness passes the stiffness test (i.e., doesn't bend in the middle). Two other things that are an improvement over my previous belt are the seven holes ¾" apart for a little better adjustability, and a roller on the buckle. The black color is not glossy or shiny, more of a flat or matte black. After a month and a half of EDC, I can recommend it.

Thank you for the recommendation.
I've been wanting a belt with 3/4" spaces instead of the 1" spacing on my current belt.

OLD THREAD

Trying out what 1791 calls a "Fair Chase", a soft leather, vertical carry, metal clip retention holster made of deerskin, for my P365 (also fits the Ruger Max-9; several sizes available). Like any soft holster that is not molded to a specific gun, forget about reholstering. Also, the retention comes mostly from the belt pressure, so no jumping or Unnecessary Combat Rolls. But the deerskin is exceptionally soft, spreads the pressure out, and is very comfortable to carry. Being the shape and almost the hardness of the gun, Kydex holsters tend to poke and prod at you. The inside is also smooth, feeling a little like suede. Pleased with it so far.

I've been looking at a 1791 called simply "leather gun holster IWB" which says it's rigid enough for re-holstering. It's definitely a generic size, but says it will fit my P-229 AND my Glocks, all of them.

Going just by pictures of holsters, it looks like this one drops the pistol nearly down to the beltline, which seems the best way to carry the 229.

If I get it, I'll drop in with a review. I'm hoping it's good for a 2 O'Clock carry.

UPDATE: Amazon screwed up my order and it took a while, but the holster came today, so some initial impressions.

First off, there are a couple IWB holsters on their website but only one on Amazon, and nothing to tell which one I got. The 1791 package has a number X002NTGMST, and only lists Sigs, not Glocks like their ad on Amazon, which for me is fine since it's for my P229.

Second, it rides higher in real life than in the picture, but still OK to conceal from casual eyes at the 2 O'Clock position.

Third, and this I'm very positive about, the back piece of leather comes up far enough to prevent the slide from touching my torso, but then curves out to retain the slide, keeping the pistol from falling out when I bend over, which was a real concern with my Don Hume IWB holsters.

Lastly, it's verrrrrryyyy stiff!!! The package references a video on breaking it in, which I still have to watch, and despite this, I can still draw the gun relatively easily. We'll see how it works out.

So far, so good.
