I had a CCW in San Diego; at the time it was first issued there was a long wait list. At the renewal it was very easy.
Now I've moved; there's no transfer from one county to another, I have to apply in El Dorado County as a new applicant. BUT appointments for interview were available next week!
BUT 16 hours mandatory training even with previous CCW.
Sigh.
BUT there are more P365 models available on the CA roster.
BUT still limited to 10 rounds.

Not suggesting you wait. But if you’re not in a rush, getting issued in Jan vs this year I think gets you a 3 year renewal rather than the current 2 year.

Here in upstate NY and in my present county of residence, CCW is issued by the county clerk office with the county judge signing the issued CCW license.
My last home in a different county, CCW license administration was done by the ID Division of the County Sheriff Dept, and also signed by the county judge.
On the county level, across most of the upstate counties, a pistol license once issued, is for life.
(upstate is defined by NOT NY City, the five boroughs, and NOT Long Island)
Pretty much everything else.

I have seen CCW admin people comparing newspaper obituaries against their lists of pistol license holders, checking to see if someone owning handguns died, and guns needed to be picked up/confiscated.
If the handguns in a dwelling aren't on license belonging to a living person, the police will come and pick them up.
Yes, if enough hoops are jumped through, you "might" get them back, or at least sold through an FFL.

I received an email from one of the larger regional CCW trainers today, and it had a reminder in it.
NYS passed the "concealed carry improvement act" some years back, and as with all democrap liberal crazies legislation, it sucks!

The not so gentle reminder from the trainer was, CCW licenses MUST be "recertified" online every three years with the state police. Target shooting/Hunting/Premises pistol licenses every five years.
The liberal democrats are doing anything and everything to disallow firearms ownership and CCW.
The trainer mentioned that he was aware of multiple events where someone had a NYS pistol license, which is typically issued for life.
The owner, not being aware of the new requirement from the concealed carry improvement act, and perhaps not a "gun" person, didn't do the online recertification.
Yes, you guessed correctly, cops pounding on the door, confiscating not only the handguns, but all the guns in the house. Not recertifying is criminalized, so now you are screwed.

Someplace in Albany, on a long list, a checkmark is placed on the list, another success story for them, another person who has lost their gun rights.

Me, I recertify several months before the three years is up, and have reminders set in my phone and computer so I won't forget.
Recertifying online isn't difficult or time consuming, but they have you by the short hairs if you don't stay informed, or if you forget.
I have standing orders with family members, when they hear I have died, the FIRST thing they do is retrieve all the firearms & ammunition.
When that task is complete, then they can call the Funeral Home.

Me personally, I would like to see a Federal Law passed, that every Federal, State, or Local elected government official was subject to civilian review. I'm not talking about voting them out of office.
Let's see here, Mr./Mrs./Ms. elected official, a law you backed/wrote/or voted for has been declared unconstitutional.
You will forfeit all personally owned property and funds. And you will be horsewhipped and caned in public view.
It's the new 50/50 politician improvement act! Forfeit all your assets, and 50 lashes, then 50 stripes with the cane.
We might see a lot less of those laws that are clearly unconstitutional.

How does the Cali CCW work with County Issued CCW? Can you carry in the entire State of Cali? Or is it County specific?

Next step in my application process is that mandatory class. I will ask them that same question. Just want to have an idea on the validity.

Permits are normally good statewide.

Living in FL, sometimes it is difficult to wrap my head around what some of you guys have to deal with.

Yup. I have to purchase 3x 10-round mags for the 3 pistols I listed on my Cali CCW application. Then I have to pay $385 for a 16Hr on-line class, then I have to pay a NRA certified firearm in NV to do my Qualification for those 3 pistols. Plus, the Initial Application Fee, then once APPROVED, I have to pay the Remaining CCW Application Fee that is only valid for 2 years. They make it so expensive to get a Cali CCW permit.

New law was just passed and signed - starting January 1, 2027, CCW licenses will be good for 3 years. Anything prior to that date will still be 2 years.
