Honda HRV and the eco switch
On or off? I'm about to switch to off to get better mileage.

Mrs. Sigmund has a 2020 HRV bought new in August 2020, the eco button has always been on. It's got about 2500 miles, mostly short trips around town. Mileage was in the low 20s for local trips.

We recent took a trip on the interstate to Kansas City (about 350 miles), mileage was 25.5, 24.2, and 30.9. Two shorter trips to Cedar Rapids got us 30.2 and 28.9. Acceleration is fine.

A neighbor with an older (2017?) HRV said keep it OFF, I'll try that and see what we get.

On or off?

I never use mine on my CR-V, but keep in mind, your gas mileage will increase significantly once the engine has broken in. You'll see an increase after another few thousand miles.

On a few vehicles the economy switch seems to disable the A/C.

IIRC

The Honda Eco button softens throttle response, shifts earlier (on non-CVT automatics) & decreases A/C compressor load.

my 2015 Civic SE, bought as a CPO with 30K , has always had it on,

I'm at 85K now,

I notice about a mile per gallon difference when the blends change from winter to summer and back again,

drove around a day or so with it off and never noticed a difference, performance wise,

but Civic SE's don't really have much performance

My Bronco has never seen the eco mode and never will.

Normal and sport mode all the time.

IMHO, Honda should call it the city / highway switch. We had one on a 2013 CR-V. ECO mode cycles the HVAC system, has a greater variance in Cruise settings before shifting in hilly terrain, and also limits operation of electric steering assist on straight line travel. Turning it off negates these effects. In our practical experience, we used ECO on highway trips, and turned it off around town. Also turned it off if driving in hilly areas while Cruise was on. It did make a slight difference / improvement in MPG if used correctly. Your experiences may differ. Good luck.

The wife has a CR-V and the eco switch is never on. Gas mileage seems unaffected.
