Yup. Particularly evil. It has a bayonet lug, and I bet it has that thing that goes up.
"I vowed to myself to fight against evil more completely and more wholeheartedly than I ever did before. . . . That’s the only way to pay back part of that vast debt, to live up to and try to fulfill that tremendous obligation."

Yep. Standard issue rifle of the US military from 1959 through the late 1960s, and continued on in limited use for years later.

M-16 in boot camp July of 77, then at my first duty station I was issued the M- 14, mine had a synthetic stock. Hell we were still using the M-79 and the 106 recoilless rifle.

egregoreIt would be pretty cumbersome to handle for drills, with all the quick reverses, snaps and twirls, with a magazine in it, let alone be shoulder-carried.

ChachEarly version as well IIRC because of the vented handguard.

George43I carried M1s in basic and Ft. Monmouth in 1961. Issued M14s without a select lever in Germany in 1962, and Viet Nam in 1965.
A gun in the hand is worth more than ten policemen on the phone.
The American Revolution was carried out by a group of gun toting religious zealots.

Jimbo54Yep, M-14. I carried one everywhere during basic and AIT in '67'. It was a beast and impossible to keep the barrel from rising during automatic fire.
