A great talent. When he broke into the rotation in 71, he went 24-8 with 301k’s. Not too shabby for a 21 year old. Some say he was the reason Finley broke up the dynastic A’s. Wanting more money. Rest easy VB

Back then as a kid I was a big baseball fan and remember, respect and admire his talent or the time.

He was fun to watch.

Met him once, nice guy, had no aires or, pretension. He was an among a number of pro athletes that got caught up in cocaine usage/possession in the 70's and followed him into retirement, likely affected his candidacy to get into the Hall of Fame. He did quite a bit with the Giants the last 15-years of his life, lots of radio show hosting and community events, particularly fantasy camp. Several friends attended fantasy camp and all said that Blue was the most easy going, approachable and had lots of stories that wouldn't get into the press. He and Bill Laskey were a great pair to listen to on their talk show.
